Fecal Exams

Postby Bird_Brain » Tue Nov 15, 2011 5:52 pm

Once again, I am offering my service of doing free fecal exams. While I am confident in my ability of doing a fecal exam, this should not replace normal veterinary visits/test. The main reason of me offering to do this is mainly for my benefit and "enjoyment". If I find anything suspicious, I will alert you to seek veterinary care.

If there is a decent amount of demand for me to do these for members of this forum, Id be happy to purchase a camera to attach to my microscope and upload findings (obviously no members name/information will be associated with the post/pictures). I assure you discretion will be maintained if you wish.

I have had the opportunity to run several fecal exams for members. Some where clean, others were not. Its very simple on your part and little to no money involved. Just two ziplock baggies and a stamped envelope.

So if you are interested, please collect a fresh stool sample in the ziploc and double bag it. Put in refrigerator and pm me ASAP. I will give you address to mail to and I will let you know the results within 24hrs of me receiving the sample.

When we redo the medical advice thread and add pictures back into it etc. I could add this in as well and let members know to contact you.

It is a very generous offer. :D

Think you could check other reptiles, or just blueys?

I can check most animals; dogs, cats, reptiles, pigs, cows, etc.

Just let me know when you get a fresh sample.

Thanks again guys for the help with this. I am getting more interest in this than before, which is great.

I have been getting questions regarding my knowledge on poop. I can thank working as a Vet Assistant for 4 years. I have had the opportunity to do many different things while working there including running fecal exams, blood tests, administering meds and vaccines, assisting in surgeries, handling aggressive dogs, scooping poop, mowing the lawn, holding in the eye of a boston terrier that happened get popped out (please dont squeeze any bug eyed dogs!), and so many other amazing things!

Am I an expert? Absolutely not, but do have enough knowledge to let you know whats going on. So please feel free to let me know if you have any other questions, or need my address to send poop to!

you deffinitely need to get a camera for your microscope, i would love to see your findings, especially as people start to offer whole food items more often because this will increase a lot of transit parasites and eggs within skink poo, more similar to snake samples.

Well, I just so happen tried to take pictures with the normal camera today and they turned out really well. I am so glad that I did not spend $100+ for a camera seeing how well these pictures turned out. Even though the people will remain anonymous, I have sent off PM's to make sure they dont have an issue with me posting the pictures. I dont know why they would since nobody knows who has sent me fecals unless they come forth and post.

So far the main parasite I have seen is Pinworms and one case of hookworms. One of the exams tonight left me confused. Not exactly sure what it is. One egg I took a picture of has two "nucleus"/embryos in it. Kinda neat.

Also, if I remember correctly, you have experience in the veterinary field. Do you run many fecal exams?
