BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

I am only posting this in the Advanced discussion forum because of the graphic nature of the pictures. I just thought there would be less chance that someone would "accidentally" view the pictures without realizing what they were going to see.

This is my 5th northern to give birth. She had 14 babies today. One of them was still born. So far I have 42 northern babies with one more probably gravid female. I have been a bit busy lately!









Immediately after birth the babies eat their yolk sac. These two came out within a couple seconds of each other, and the first one started eatin the second ones sac before the second one even had a chance to turn around and get it.




The second one did get part of it though.



This is another baby eating its yolk sac with the fully developed baby that was stillborn next to him.




Here are a couple of most of the litter.







Hopefully I will have time to post a few individual pictures of some of the babies from the first 4 litters tomorrow.

Wow, you are so lucky to have witnessed this! They are all so adorable, congrats! Its amazing to think they all managed to fit inside mum 0.0

Its such a shame about the stillborn one though. I wonder what happened? It looks perfect.

is this common? We just got a 5-6week old from Tula Girl, he is a Northern and looks very similar to these babies. She did a great job with them, he is easy to handle, not one hiss out of him. He is still getting used to us and his home, but he is going to make a great pet! I hope you find awesome home for all of yours!

Are those the phil x lorena (bruno) babies?

Thanks for the comments. Alie, IF there are eastern babies on the way, it should be in about 2 weeks. The end of July is the time I am most looking forward to though!

Yes that was Lorena (Bruno) having her babies.

Hi Jeff I don't know if you do this but a tip, I normally put some scrambled egg in with the babies straight away after they consume their yolk sacks for an extra boost - they normally eat it straight away. Just make it with egg only no milk or margarine etc.

oooh <3 look how small they are! Congrats on the birth! Its unfortunate for the still born, but even so you have a full litter to look forward to!

Thanks Scott. I have never heard that before. Do you think it would be even better to scramble the yolk only? Seems like that is where the good stuff is.

Here is a pic of the runt of the litter from last year that missed out on eating it's yolk only an hour or so after birth.

Dunno I just give them the whole egg, they seem to eat it ok. It is more about getting something into them - they seem to respond best to egg, rather than other foods immediately after birth. Instincts.

Great pictures. I like the ones where one of the earlier babies is watching the next one come out, looking expectant. Maybe he was waiting for more tasty yolk sacks.
