I take it you mean mostly because of the non-quarantining number? I guess I'm not . . .![]()
I knew that a few people haven't done it, but wow...
A whole collection could be wiped out by ONE animal not being quarantined. They cannot breathe the same air either. Remember, this poll was based on purchasing an animal from somebody that you don't really know.
that makes a big difference in my answer then
I would say 1-2 maybe 3 months depending on the type of reptile

(I know that this can certainly vary depending on what kind of animal it is, who you got the animal from, how much you trust the seller, etc.; but just treat this as if you just received the animal in question from somebody you don't really know all that well.)

I didn't answer this poll. I have only gotten new animals from Greg and Zach and my initial 3 had been housed together.
I did quarantine Chester when I got him for a while...he was set up in my room and all the others were in the living room or guest room. (This ended up being a good thing because he ended up having mites.) But he doesn't really count because I was only herp sitting for a week.

I didn't vote because like I said it varies depending on species, etc.
Heather, I too am surprised at the results.
To me, it shouldn't matter whether you trust the person or not because it's not always going to be their fault if the animal has something. They may give great care and not know themselves.
It's best if done in a different room as far from your collection as possible, but if that's not feasible and you must keep them in the same room then still try to keep them as far from your collection and follow all the other guidelines (simple setup, clean/handle them last, seperate cleaning supplies, etc).
I had found some good articles on it years ago, but now this is all I could find:

That is so true, Tiger! I worded it that way though, because most people would have answered with, "Well, I know him/her like a best friend so it wasn't neccessary at all!" and stuff like that.

Saphira is in a different room then everyone else but she does come in contact with my other guys outside (she's on one side of the playpen and mostly Frankie is on the otherside looking at her) so I guess I didn't really quarantine her. The same thing happened with Spike last year. Baylee was the only one who was truely quarantine but that was mostly because I got him in the winter and I only took one out at a time. I guess I'm quilty of thinking I got them from Ray and Greg they were going to be fine.

this is a bit off topic, but when they're shipped does the box have ventilation holes in it? Or is there enough air in the box to last them the length of their trip?

Even if I know the person, I still quarantine for the simple reason of not knowing what kinds of bacteria or whatever are on the opposite end of the country.
And Tiger is right, even if the person has great intentions, their simple lack of knowledge may result in poor care of the animal. I wonder how many BTS are truly neglected. Both times I've ordered from someone (sunny & niko) their condition were both in what I would call neglect.

Heather, I figured that's why you worded it that way - I just thought it important to point that out though.
