Blotched Sexing test (suggested by Richard C)

She's definately beautiful!

The tail thing wasn't in regards to sexing - just what is up in the blotched section to the left of the screen. A general observation of blotchies. I don't see this observation as accurate that's all - was wondering what you thougth as it seems your blotchies have the same tails as mine.

do u mean having fat tails that end apruptly,i guess the lowlands dont as a rule,some females can though,but its not a rule for lowlands,alpines on the otherhand have pretty fat tails that fir that description pretty good,maybe they were referring to that,they may not have lowlands over there remember,they may only have first hand knowledge from the alpine variety,u have to remember they arent lucky to have alot of any blotchies over there,which is a shame as they would have to be the perfect all round bluetongue in my books

yeah granted the Alpine fits the description. Zach if you're reading this - update it to include Lowlands do not fit into this desciption. I think the proof is in the pudding so to speak.

Ohh BTW - i was thinking about a past thread that lucifer re posted about - the bluey skull, seeing as you have that dead baby blotched - would you consider whacking it in with some meal worms to let them clean it all up for you so we can see if in fact Delicate did have a bluey skull or just to see what a skull of a bluey looks like??? Just a thought.

I don't know which of my blotchies to take out side - my room is always hovering around 20oC - so I dunno. I'm thinking LIL (cuz he is definately a male) and maybe Vic - to test your theory.

She's gravid for sure! Just off topic for 2 secs, I find that statement about blotchies having thicker tails that come to an abrupt point on the blotched section un true. looking at my blueys and yours richard plus every other blotch I've ever seen (except those that have lost tails and are regenerating) - they make that statement untrue - what do you think?

You're mainly looking at males.

If you compare two blotchies, a known female & known male of equal total length you will generally find that the female will have a longer Snout Vent Length (compared to the male) but her tail will be shorter.

Females will also have a more solid body which makes their head look narrower whereas the male will be of slimmer build and hence it's head will be boofyer.

looking at my blotchies, all except for one (a male) have thick tails that end abruptly.

if you go off the tail size then - Vic possibly female (even though there is a squishy tail base) and micro is female - cuz all the rest have quite long tails in comparison. But in saying that even Vics tail is long. Micro definately looks female using that way of sexing.

Would that be right?

from what I can see in the pic..... Vic & Micro are most likely female.

How old is Micro?

not 100% sure - he/she was given to me - atleast 1 and a half, maybe 2.

Funny thing is when i looked at micro really close the other night, i got this strange feeling micro was a she. So that'd be cool!
