the blender worked. loki has eaten a bit of brocoli blended up with kidney. will try and get him eating more normal meat such as chicken or mince but at leat i know i can fool him.

the one im getting is the first two pictures 100x50x50cm

so while his current home is small it is very tempory and i may even put him into a slightly larger box if he shoots up in size before the viv arrives.


what do you think of the one im going to buy?

My heart sank a little when I saw the picture of what he's in, but I can't encourage enough how much better the new one will be.

No wonder he wasn't eating. There was no way in heck he was getting a proper environment with space and temperatures in that little thing.

I'm not sure what your story is getting this guy, whether it was an emergency and he had to come in another container, but for this reason otherwise it's why we encourage people get the vivarium first before the skink. I'm thankful you came here asking questions so we could help out.

he was eating. he was eating loads, just no veg apart from cooked tomatos, and i was asking for ideas on how to get him to eat green stuff.

Your introductory post very much sounded as if there were general eating problems from the whole story, not just your suggestion of fruits and veggies, which made me suspect an environment problem.

Ah, sorry. that was just me, i think it was really late when i wrote that post. i made the mistake of offering liver and everything else paled in comparrison lol

i know the current tank isnt the best thing for him and if he hadnt been eating anything then i would have got the first viv i could find and set it up for him reguardless but i would rather wait and get the glas one i have found.

tried loki on banana and he loves it! would you say just once or twice a week?

When I got my late bluey Fred 10 years ago, he was on a very poor diet in the pet store of gatoraide and monkey chow. We weaned if off of that, and got him onto fresh or frozen veggies and fruit, (beans, peas, a little corn, grapes, organic mixed greens, oranges, etc) and for protein, chicken (pick the carcass of a roast chicken or turkey, and freeze it into meal size portions) Hard boiled egg was popular. Also try smelt. You can buy them frozen anywhere you can buy fish bait. Chop up one, and throw it in. The scales, guts, muscle, bones, and food in their bellies are very tasty (if your a lizard) and are very healthy. Also, try feeding your bluey by hand. When ever Fred wouldn't eat his fruits or veggies, I would take him out, hand feed him chicken, his favorite, then for his next piece of chichen I would stick a quarter grape under and he would grab the grape accidentally while trying to grab the chicken. He would be forsed into eating his fruit. Be careful though, by doing this your bluey might bite you accitdentally if you put your fingers too far into his mouth. That was the only time in 10 years of owning Fred that I got bit, when I was stuffing food in his mouth.

I also agree about the terrarium. Proper heat lamp all the way. What we did with Fred, is we made the right hallf of the tank his "warm half" with the heating lamp, and a plastic black lizard hut which got nice and warm, but not hot, sitting beside the heat lamp rays. The left half was the cool half, where there were no heating devices, and lots of plants for him to hide in. This allowed Fred to regulate his temperature.

A word of counter-advice, would you eat bait from a bait store? If not, don't feed it to your bluey. What' that? Perhaps you would eat bait from a bait store? I still wouldn't feed it to your bluey.

I wouldn't eat bait either, but if you really want to feed this to your Bluey... fish mongers (usually in Chinatown or Japantown) will have smelt for humans

he also seems to like yogurt.....is that bad for him?

Dairy, particularly yogurt, is not something reptiles are built to metabolize so I don't think it's a good idea.... although a tiny bit here and there would probably not hurt him.

I almost said there is a "banana nut" squash, but then remembered it's called "butternut" instead. Loki may still like it grated or steamed, or both.

WOW, thats amazin'! is that with water or with out, bacause i imagine it would be hard to survive mouth with out bein' hydrated, but im no expert
