Pryce is Home! A few pictures and a big question

Postby Fatal_S » Thu Aug 23, 2007 11:32 am

Yay! Last night I took the 45 minute drive to Steinbach with my friends and picked up a little Northern. We got home, he did some exploring, and now he's settling in. I didn't get many pictures with my laptop because he was huffing a bit. The only usable pictures are of him leaving:

And him hiding away with a watchful eye on us:

And one from a while ago at the store to show his pretty colors:

He seems to like his new home, and is moving around a bit today. I'm trying to be a good owner and not bug him, but I'll get more pictures tonight at dinner time.

Big Question- Pryce is going to be getting a vet visit. Should I schedule it now or wait until he's well settled in (a week?). He does sometimes breathe through his mouth, and did this at the store as well, but only does it sometimes. It would be preferable to get his vet visit done soon as the other 2 blueys will be coming soon, but I'm afraid to stress him out too much. Help?

Oh, and for dinner tonight he gets a mix of cooked chicken, butternut squash, romaine lettuce (he'll be getting better greens after tonight) and some papaya. Out of all these...I've only ever eaten the chicken -.-' I feel like an uneducated slob when it comes to these fancy foods.

Final Note: We're looking to get the 2 tanny babies shipped early next week! Yay!

Is it a vet you have already seen for another animal? If you already have an account there, I would see if they would do a fecal before they see him. If that's possible I would get the fecal done now and give him a little time to settle in before taking him. This will also allow you to be able to anwer questions about his eating and other habits. I would keep him seperate from the new blueys. My new guys are always kept in a different room for a month or so, so I can make sure they are healthy.

Alright, so now Supper time is over, and I'm back online. First, for supper:Image
This was cooked chicken, butternut squash, romaine lettuce, and papaya. It looked wonderful to me, but unfortunately Pryce just ignored it. Oh well, it was to be expected I suppose, I'll just try again tomorrow. A few more pictures of him basking:

He's still pretty huffy when I go near him, but I hope that gets better after a while. I had a few of those "Oh god what am I doing?!" moments. These seemed to come mostly over the food prep or picking up an angry skinker. I went out and got a food chopper, so prep should be easier, and it'll just take some time to calm him down. I'll probably have a few more of those moments, but cuddling and watching him and having him watching me back makes up for the panicy times ^.^ So that's my update for today.

Jenn, thanks for the response. I've never been to this particular vet, but my regular vet recommended them. I'll call them up tomorrow and see about setting up an exam in a week and maybe a fecal before that. As for keeping him seperate, currently he is my only skink, but in (hopefully) less a week 2 from Andrew will be showing up. I don't really have the option of quarintine for any as I only have 1 room in my house, but none will be interacting until I get used to them and make sure Pryce is healthy.
