Well it turns out I didn't get to pick up my skink today since my manager wasn't there today But she will be tomorrow and I'll see if I can do it then I tried to see if any other PetSmarts around had a 40 gallon and everyone is sold out so I guess I'm going to wait until Monday when our new store opens to get everything. My manager is gonna'give me the basking lamp and a 20 gallon until then though. I hate to put him in a 20 gallon but it'll only be for 2-3 days

I do have a few questions though. Since I won't have a UV light for a few days, should I wait to buy the calcium supplement since it can't be absorbed anyways? Also, I was planning on buying some Repti-Safe water conditioner since we use it at work. It is totally necessary right away and do any of you use it? I think I'm also going to buy a few cans of his favorite cat food to hold him over until he get his new bigger tank. Plus its his comfort food. After he gets settled though I'll definitely start on a healthy feeding plan

Oh, a 20 gallon will be just fine for a few days, and a few days without UV will also be absolutely harmless. I've never heard of Repti-safe water conditioner, but I believe those things are an complete waste of money. Something to drop in the water to essentially sterilize it? What the heck is it that you're putting in the animal's water that's magically making it purified? You spend a lot, and really get nothing. If you're that worried about water, buy a big gallon of distilled water for 50 cents at Winco. There's so many "cool' new items for reptiles, everything from this water stuff to "shed aide" and you seriously don't need any of it.

About the calcium, we've talked about this frequently as of late so forgive the repetitiveness to anyone else who's reading...but why buy calcium supplements? Feed foods WITH calcium! The point of "supplementation" is to add something that is otherwise missing in your diet. Feed a well-balanced diet enriched with calcium! Collard greens are the perfect staple for regular calcium intake. Mix some up in his cat food. Calcium supplements cost a lot, some have questioned possible lead contamination in them, and again, NOT necessary. Of course, I wouldn't be against having some on hand in a pinch, but I personally don't feed it regularly at all.

My store opens at 9 am so I'm going to call in a few and see if my manager is there. If she is I'm going to go down and pick him up right away. I'm so excited I can't help myself...

Unfortunately I have to wait for my medicine to arrive via UPS before I can go anywhere. I can't leave it in the heat, especially because its $250 for one shot and theres 40 shots for a grand total of $10,000 In the mean time I think I'll go outside and look for some basking rocks and see if I have any supplies to build a special basking spot like the one Russman posted...

Hmmm, I wonder if my dad would be upset if I start ripping up the tile walkway outside

EDIT: This is working out perfect! I found a nice thick natural rock tats basically the shape of a rectangle, perfect for the body of a bluey. And I just looked in the garage, and we have the perfect materials! We even happen to have some nice black felt-like cloth! Perfect for the ramp for the basking spot!

I'm actually not too sure how long he is, never had a chance to measure at work, but I'll try to figure it out when I get him. I don't think he's full grown though...
