Has anyone ever used Metal Halide lighting? They're supposed to give off a good amount of UV, and are the closest thing to natural daylight produced from a lamp, I know the zoos use them for coral production in tropical saltwater aquariums.
MMMmmmmm... Something???????

Thanks everyone for posting!

I would take my skink out if I could, but where I live it is to cold 6 months of the year.
I'm hearing alot of mixed thoughts on the bulb I am thinking of. Is there a bulb that would be better that is under $35?

I wouldn't trust that ReptiSun 10.0 CFL. Even if it doesn't cause overt damage that you can see, the wavelengths of light it gives off are not in the same proportions as the proven 10.0 tube of the same brand. Tests show a higher ratio of light in the "action spectrum for dna damage": http://uvguide.co.uk/phototherapyphosph ... tm#spectra

But having used compacts at first, I think if you don't have the opportunity to take your skink outside frequently (as I don't), go with the tube -- even in a small tank (like the 30 breeder I was using) it doesn't cover much area!

On the water topic: our city water is heavily chlorinated. It burns my eyes in the shower and tastes gross. So I use a Brita filter, but because there's no chlorine to ward off the oogies, I wash the dish with Nolvasan daily. :)

Yes mate ,they do make you think alot more about what's in it and where you buy stuff from, its a good thing I think :chin:
