You bloody Aussies, Marmite was out first, vegemite was later, you can also buy a similar sized jar called "Yeast extract " now.. that is the happy shopper(cheapo) equivalent :hurl:

How do you Americans think you can substitue butter with peanut butter and get away with it, its JUST NOT RIGHT. You got to butter the bread first then stick on a layer of peanut butter(crunchie not smooth), no jam (jelly is a kids party dessert you know)you'd be a right sicko to lay as much marmite on as peanut butter, and I love both by the spoonfull.
MMMmmmmm... Something???????

Hey Leigh ... I'm with you. In Vermont butter goes with everything. I used to watch my Grandfather cut butter off the stick and eat it :shock: (he was a dairy farmer for many years). There is just no substitute for the stuff. :D

Oh, C'mon, its not that bad in small quantities! (salty motor oil? :rofl:
I like vegemite or marmite on a baked potato. Its a bit "yeasty" but its got lotsa B vits. Not bad for you! (unless its from 1991!)
I've never heard of it being illegal here. I can usually find it at food import shops!

Seriously? There was a thread here a year or so ago just on vegemite. :lol: I could be wrong. Seems like the FDA didn't approve it though, but maybe import shops an do whatever they want?
