Bathing your bluey
Do you give your bluey a bath? How often and in what manner? Do you let him wade around in a little pool of his own or do you just rinse him under a warm faucet?
I know from what I've read they recommend bathing bearded dragons alot more than bluey's. Any thoughts?

If one of my skinkoids is having shedding difficulties, I will bathe it. I put about two inches of warm water in the tub and let the skink crawl around. Otherwise, I have a pyrex pie plate watering hole in the enclosure. If my skink so chooses, he can drag his belly through the water. Only one of my skinks enjoys the actual bathtub, all of my other skinks look a little irritated when I soak them.

Tattoo gets a soak if he retains any bits of skin after a shed. I put him in warm water in a dish pan for a few minutes while talking to him and trying to keep him from climbing out. I think he believes he is being punished anytime he is put in the tub ... poor little darling.
I will have to admit I love the fact that I can plan for a pooh after any bathing session.

Ohhhh Hijinks, is Ping still being a poop-smear?
it just cracks me up! (I'm sorry to laugh, I know its no fun to clean up smelly smear-ey Skink-poop, but your descriptions are really funny!)
As for bathing, Chuffers HATES baths. (he had to have dailies when I was treating him for parasites) He freaks out and tries to climb out of the sink, the tub, whatever. I try and make sure the water temp is fine, but he only gets baths if he's very smelly,(poop again) or if he has stuck shed on those dainty toes of his.
The only time I've ever seen him display was when he was in the tub. I had left the bathroom to get a clean towel to dry him off, and I scared him when I came back unannounced. Poor Chuffalump!

Yeah, he is a troublemaker. I don't mind the poo smearing so much, as long as he keeps it in a central location. It's when he covers himself in it then bops around the tank, smearing the whole thing (and all the toys inside)...
This has only happened a couple times, but when it does happen, it is EPIC.

don't read if you are eating-----poo poo painting
Pele' wouldn't in a million years potty on his basking rock or muddle around in it. Charlotte (my baby) is a different story. She likes to potty on her basking rock and then walk through it to ensure maximum efficiency. She also likes to eat and then rub her mouth on the glass. Silly baby!
I know of a child (whose name I won't mention) that liked to poo poo paint in the crib. That is nasty. Nothing like walking into a toddler's room and seeing (&*(*^ all over the walls, sheets, crib slats and everything else within reach. Now that is disgusting!!!!!! Much easier to clean a bluey and its tank.
I let my blueys swim in a small rubbermaid feeding trough. Pele' kinda dog paddles and Charlotte swims with her tail like a snake. Of course, she is less solid since she is younger. I love watching them in the water but Pele' seems much more relaxed than Charlotte. Too cute though.

Jenn wrote:Like everyone else, I only bath when they are having problems shedding but even then I try a humid hide first. All of my guys have big water dishes in their cages at all times.
Same here, I don't bathe unless they're having severe problems, or they walked through crap. The smell of crap can linger on them if no one has noticed, so I have to thoroughly clean them to get it off.
I have an interesting smell test I do. I exhale hot air onto their scales and then smell. For some reason, the dampness (or something) really brings out whatever is on them and it helps me see how clean they are (because sometimes dry poo can go unnoticed)!

Zach, thats a good trick, but boy, my bloodhound nose is sensitive enough that I haven't had to do that yet!
As for toddlers and the poo smear thing, well, I am guilty as charged.
I had "discovered" my full nappy, and then my big bro who was 4 at the time came in to my room. ( I was supposed to be napping) so he was the first to notice what I had done. He left, came back with a big bag of cotton balls, then we had a heyday making a textured mural of the bedroom wall, my crib, etc. . .
Boy, I bet my parents were ready to give us back up for adoption when they came in. and saw our project. I actually vaguely remember doing this (which is the funny part!)!
I guess my mother yelled at my Dad, "Do you wanna paint the walls or clean the kids and crib?
My mum took me to the doctor because she thought I was mental or something, and he told her " Its just a young artist at work!"

My guys get a bath when there's shed problems or they get badly dirty. I just put some water in the sink or tub, and let em go. They always have a place to get out of the water though (my hand for example) so they don't have to swim all the time. The reactions vary depending on how the skinks are feeling.
First time Pryce shed, he had many problems, so he got a bath. At first he was very upset. Then he got to like it, and was upset when I took him out. He still can't decide if he likes it or not.
