Northern's size variation

I know Northern Blue Tongues are said to be the largest of the BTS's. I was wondering, for those of you who have/had northern's, what sizes did they grow to be as adults? Is there a large variation or do they usually tend to get around 20 inches or more? :chin:

Tattoo's parents are both around 20 inches. I suppose he will probably end up being in that range. :)

Here's some info from wild specimens that Jenn & I discussed (maybe 2 years ago)....

From 'Energetics of Blue tongue lizards in a seasonal tropical environment'
very interesting reading I might add.

16 lizards, (10 male, 6 female) mean SVL = 32.8 cm, range 29.0 - 38.0 cm

mean mass 563 grams, range 315 - 702 grams.

hope this helps....

Note 2.54 cm = 1 inch and SVL (snout Vent Length) is much more important than TL (Total length)

I need to measure Chuff from SVL, as I've only measured all 22 inches of him in total length, but he's a Merauke, and they have long tails. He weighs in at about 545 grams.

Niko is 22 inches, and I can't be sure of Peach/Pearl since their tails are cut....I imagine Pearl would be 22 or more; she's very large but her tail was cut very high up. I think you already know that, but thought I'd post anyway. :)

Zach, do you measure snout to vent when you say Niko is 22 inches or do you include his tail?

Oh, that definitely includes the tail! I will try to get the SVL if you would like next time he is awake...

I need to get my guys SVL when they wake up as well.
Including the tail- Spike= 23 inches
Frankie= 20 1/2 inches
Christopher= 18 inches

Pele' is definitely bigger than Latte' will be. I don't know if she'll ever get as big as Spike though. Must be that Jenn is just a great cook! :wink:

You never know, Niko is BIG.....wonder how old he is. My guess is 6-8.
