I've been doing some research on numerous retile species, i really like blue tongues. My only problem is i have a standard 65 gallon tank that was bought for next to nothing, would this be sufficient enough for a blue tongue if temps were stable?

Whats the floor space of the tank? Blueys need more room to stretch out and roam than they do height.

it's roughly 20inches deep 4 feet long and 3 feet high. I also can possibly get a critter cage like shown in your care guide but it's been used and needs really cleaned (any rec's on cleaning), same measurements but only 12-20 inches tall.

The 3 feet high is going to prove difficult for you moreso than the bluey, otherwise it's good surface area.

The one you have sounds good but I think I'd go with the shorter one just for ease of cleaning and less wasted space.

But if it was free or cheap, I would live with the little extra cleaning and the wasted space. Im a sucker for free/cheap cages.

I paid 20 bucks for the 65 gallon and i can get the 40 gallon breeder for the same price. I was more concerned on the foot print size than anything. but you guys are right thats alot of wasted space.

i do have one more question though, BTS don't really climb that much or do they? I thought they climbed a little but more crawling and weaving through hollow logs and grape vines.

Good point! You'd have to have it on the ground for as longas you owned the cage at that height....but free is free and/or cheap is cheap.

3 feet high, 4 feet long, and 20 inches deep? That sounds bigger than 60 gallons doesn't it? More like 150 gallons according to my arithmetic...

You could use it as a front opening array 4 feet long,20inches high,3 feet deep,or adapt it to be one easy enough.

Sure! I have a 55 gal for Maya and he does great in it. He likes to roam laps when he gets antsy, but there are lots of plants and sticks to climb, since he seems to be part monkey...

What a great idea! Do you know where he could find a sliding door "kit" or do you think he would have to buy the track and just cut the glass/plexi to size?

I'm beginning to think Leigh should have a DIY show instead of his current line of work. :D

My snake tank is an aquarium turned on it's side. The pet store I got Cow from had a wire top for the tank, so that's the front now. Thing you gotta remember with BTS though is that you'll need a way of getting the heat lamp and UVB inside, as it wont work well through the glass on top. You'll have to find a way to attach them to the wire front (may block the door), or inside the tank.

to answer your question, Blueys are master escape artists. For a Lizard that is meant to suck at climbing they do quite well. They do love to crawl through logs etc... but they will also climb wherever they can if it means exploring a new place.
