New background for Sammy

Postby mom22wins » Thu Jan 03, 2008 7:46 am

I finally settled on a background for Sammy's enclosure. I think she really likes it. It's smooth and I don't have to worry about splinters plus I think the wood may have an effect on the humidity levels so this may help with holding some of that in.

I've only attached it to the back of the enclosure because I'm thinking of putting something rough on the sides since she is always scratching the sides with her nails. Do you think a fine-grade sand paper attached to the sides would be okay? I just worry a little about her scratching up her sides on it. But I figure it wouldn't be much different than her scratching up her sides on a brick or rough rock, right?

Anywho, here are some recent pic's of the little girl checking out her woodsy background. 8)

Ahhh, a lush home of greenery atlast!

Let's check this out...

Yeah, and what do YOU want?

Okay, I'm finished with all these pictures. I'm outta here! Later...

It's hard to distinguish between the plants in the enclosure and the background, isn't it? I really love the results. I should've done it long ago. Thanks for all the ideas from those of you who post pics alot. 8)

Geeeeez....it looks great.

I'm embarrassed that I've had our backdrop wallpaper (special ordered) STILL sitting behind our couch rolled up.

Sand paper shouldn't be a problem, but I worry a little bit about her belly getting scuffed. Probably should be too bad -- try it out! Just monitor closely...

Sammy is lucky to have such a nice home! Makes Gargamel's home look like a shanty.

Nice! When I first put Maya's background up, he kept trying to climb into the magical scenery, I wouldn't think a fine sandpaper, like 400 or something would hurt. Not much different than bark, I would think. You have to put a fair bit of force on that fine sandpaper to make it sand off much anyway.

Do you think the fine sandpaper will do anything for her nails? Or would I have to get something a little more rough?

Zach, you made me laugh! I do stuff like that. I HAVE TO HAVE IT and them it sits around for weeks before I get around to using it. lol

Shadow, Sammy was actually trying to climb the trees in the background. lol

Marie, I wouldn't worry about it. I think the bluey could care less. It's us that want a "pretty" home for them.

I think it might for the nails. It doesn't take hardly any force to cut them and I think Maya's get worn a bit even by the smooth basking slate I have -- I rarely have to cut his.

I think so too! Our roommate has a hard clay base and his bluey's nails are dull as heck...

Cool. Now to find a place where they sell sheets big enough to cut out for two 18" x 18" sides. Does HomeDepot or Lowes sell sandpaper cut from a big sheet?

Looks wonderful. The right side looks so real and wild. The left looks like there's a cave behind the basking rock ^.^

Dont know about over there, but here I'd use fine 200 grit or higher wet and dry paper, it comes in A4ish sized sheets you'll get three pieces to fit a normal sander out of one sheet, stick em on along the edges with doudle sided tape, and then they'll be removable when/if it gets worn out. Set up looks good to me mate.
MMMmmmmm... Something???????

Thanks Leigh. I'm going to the home improvement store tomorrow so I'll look into getting that size.

Thanks guys,

I do actually have some artificial plants and garland in her tank but in the photo you can't really tell which is which. Ah, the magic of photography! 8)
