After that first breeding did he continue to use it as a breeder? Does he still have it?

Enzo needs babies, make sure to get on that.

Danger of hybrids?
sheesh - We all understand that you guys can't get pure specimens and that you want to preserve the bloodlines - but drop the bad attitudes you have on the hybrids would ya?
People are always gonna do this with animals, and no matter how much you pee and moan about it - it's not gonna change. They are just as cool as pure blueys - just different. I'm really sick of the dirty attitudes people cop for experimenting on breeding different blueys. I've gone through this over and over with people. I'm no longer for - nor against hybridization, I'm pro choice. just label the offspring accordingly, and be careful when purchasing. if you want a pure breed, go to a reputable breeder - much like you do when you buy a dog.
With the amount of Indo's, IJ's, Meraukes, Tannys that you guys get, you'll always have those guys, and in regards to Easterns - well you don't have any pure ones anyway - so it doesn't really matter. Northerns? well ok - you have some cool northerns - but it seems like they are the most bred blueys over there so no shortage on those either - and if they are bred - it's normally with your tainted Easterns which are moreso intergrades. As i've said - Hybrids aren't the problem - it's the mislabelling of them, so go to a reputable dealer if it's that big of an issue.

Welcome to the forum. I agree with others that you have one nice looking Merauke. In my mind, the other one is a mix of Tanny with something else. In the first picture, the head just screams Tanny. I always think they have such beadie eyes compared to other BTS. This skink also looks to have that tanimbar shine. When you look at the skink from overhead, the skink does not look tanny.

As for sex... I will take a stab in the dark and say they are both females. That's a complete guess. When I put my male with my females, he tries to mate them.

Blotch wrote:"just label the offspring accordingly"

Ok, so you obviously didn't read this thread. Labeling isn't what we're discussing. We're speaking about a difference in opinion which resulted in a likely misidentification which resulted in likely hybrids which resulted in many animals being put on the market that look like a mixture of who knows what. When this person posted the animal, nobody was certain what it was. That's a little annoying, and that's ok -- so how about YOU be the one who stops the whining? ;) Plus, you're not here in the states. You don't know how many animals there are, which are pure, or how knowledgeable most people are about them.

Yes, we have pure Easterns. Ray has them. I have two. They are descendents of wild caught animals. I've said this many times.

No, Northerns are not bred a lot. There are not many in the states. You cannot find or buy them all the time. There are really only a handful of people who breed them. Compared to Indos, they are slim to none, and compared to Bearded dragons, they are a rare gem.

"and be careful when purchasing"

The people on this forum are close to the only people in the entire country (I think) who are pretty good at identifying BTS! There is hardly any "be careful" when purchasing reptiles. Most people who buy them don't even know that different BT species exist.

So anyway, I don't think anyone needs to "get over it". By that I assume you mean we should start agreeing with you and just ignore the problem of ignorance and BT breeding. Easterns are almost totally gone, some believe because of hybridization....northerns next maybe? Perhaps they close the borders to Tanimbar tomorrow? We have less Tanimbars here than we do Northerns. In fact, there are far, far fewer Tanimbars in the whole world than northerns. So, in my mind, they are pretty important and I feel lucky to have them here in the states. Did I mention that YELLOW tanimbars are exceptionally rare? Oh, and that's exactly what BTS we are discussing in this thread! No, I will not get over it. Nomad is spot on when he says there is a danger.

Love ya, man ;)

Sorry everybody, I know it's a tired topic.

I'm not sure if he bred it again, he might have 2 total broods; I'd have to ask him. I never heard anything about him getting rid of it....

...and YES! I would do anything to get little Enzo/Eugene babies! I can only imagine what they would be like.... :bad: :hehe:

hey Zach - I changed that "get over it" - cuz It sounded too harsh. Bummer you read it before I changed it! :P but cuz you read that - I'll answer that comment.

In regard sot the northerns being few and far between, That's pretty much the number one type of bluey I see for sale in the states - them and IJ's. I'm sorry if You think i'm wrong - I'm going off what i see in the US marketplace.

Whining? I'm not whining - I'm just sick of hearing about hybrids and people bashing on it. It happens, it's a shame - so people like yourself - that have the purest of stocks should do something about it - and I'm glad to see that you are Zach! lead by example! I know you have your opinions and you're well entitled to it, which brings me to my next reply - No - in saying "get over it" I didn't mean people should agree with me, I simply meant - it's a done subject, too done to be honest, and it's quite clear by what you have written on the caresheet that this site frowns upon hybrids, but at the end of the day - there is nothing you can do about it other than breeding more pure lines. (which as i said earlier - it's good to see you're doing).

"be careful when Purchasing"

That's good advice! not sure what you're point about the people on this site is - but what i'm basically saying is if you want a Dog with champion bloodlines - you're not gonna go to a pet store - you're gonna go to a breeder, So if you're gonna get a Bluey, you should probably do the same! It's something that this site actually advises on. Got to a reputable breeder, it's been said many, many times. As you said, I'm not in the states, so for this I'm going off your word, but Andrew, Ray and yourself all seem to be sticking with the good lines - and that's leading by example - which is the best thing you can do.

I'm just sick of the bashing when it comes to hybrids, imagine if a breeder of hybrids started bashing you guys as purists that are doing what your doing to jack up prices - would suck huh?

talk is cheap - let your actions speak for you (which with your breeding of blueys, you are).

Love you too man!

PS - there's no way at all am I having a crack at you or saying anything on the negative - in fact - I'm being quite positive, as I said i'm just sick of reading people bashing others for hybridizing.

No worries at all -- but no one was bashing anyone in this thread. ;) Ray and I disagreed, talked about it, then agreed to disagree. And him and I are totally cool! And talking about the dangers isn't bashing or negative. There are indeed more important things in this world to lose friends over than hybrid blue tongues. But still, it's been public for quite a while -- there was a huge thread on the classifieds about this whole thing a year or so ago...maybe even longer.

sorry man, I guess I was trying to kill a hybrid bashing topic before it happened. I'm so sick of them turning nasty. that baby of rays is Nice though, I'd have it!

Talking of nasty - I haven't heard back about those kimbos yet. I think maybe I offended him by saying they weren't worth $95.

Ahh well.

hahaha - seems that way. But I don't think that they are worth $95 if they're not pure. In regards to these northerns, Location is the reason why I wanted them, they are clearly different to any other northern.

Hey truelovesk8, as you can tell from the responses, hybrids always bring up a little debate on the forum. Just some things to think about before you breed. Also, sometimes threads go off on tangents and need a little redirecting back to the original topic.
