tail injury!! D:
While i was at school, my little sister tried to pick up my bluey by the tail, luckily only about half an inch of the tail fell off. I feel so bad for my skink. Im putting a lock on my door. But how do i treat this injury? Do i just leave it, or wash it with water?? Then should i move it to a enclosure with no substrate, or will it do ok in aspen? Any suggestions are welcome

Can you get a lock for the cage as well?! That way if your sis sneaks into your room, she won't be able to get in at the poor lizard.
Also, when you feel comfortable, can you sit her down and teach her how to pick up and handle the bluey, and explain why she can only do it when you 're around ( as you've lost total trust in her!) I bet she'll get the message.
(I've got a big bro, and tho' I never pulled tails off lizards by picking htme up wrong, he was paramount to teaching me all about different things we found outside, and how to catch and handle various critters!)
Trust me, your little sister probably totally looks up to you!
good luck with your skinker's poor tail! Definitely agree with the warmth and paper towel substrate.
Hope it heals very quickly and perfectly!

I completely re-did my enclosure, it has a box hide, and a tube hide with paper towels on the ground. Should i leave water in the cage so if he is thirsty he can drink? And should i change his diet?
I'd really like to post pictures but my computer is in for repair and im using my Nintendo Wii to browse the internet.
And what are signs of infection? Otherwise my skink is doing good, its being active.
btw my sister had a long time out xP (she is only 5)

Sounds like you're taking good care of your Skink, and it seems to be in relatively good health despite the stress of what happened.
I would def. leave water in, just make sure its cleaned and changed daily to prevent bacteria growth.
Your sis deserves the time out for sure! But still, give it a try, to explain to her what she did wrong. Little kids totally understand way more than people give them credit for!
For diet, I wouldn't change it, especially if you've read the carsheet and he's getting a nice variety. Just make sure he stays cozy and warm, should be fine!
A while back, I remember someone's skink (I can't remember who it belongs to right now. . . it might have been Mom22's ?) actually ate the tip of its own tail, but its totally fine now, so stranger things have happened!

you should've given your sister the twist of fate or a choke slam.
j/k Don't try Wrestling moves at home - unless you hate the person! j/k
As everyone has said - keep it clean, same with the enclosure, keep fresh water in there as you do, and just keep an eye on it.
The advice you've been given is good advice! I dare say you'll be fine following it!

Yes it was Sammy that had an attack of the munchies and decided to eat her tail! I think she was curled up in her dark hide and she didn't realize what it was and when it moved she just reacted and bit down on it. Either that or she got it stuck under something and the tip was hanging off so she ate the rest. I'll never know... Strange little turd.
Here are pic's of before and after. Her tail looks normal now.
Then
And now
Since she was just a few months old, it only took a month or so to regrow and it looks fine now.
Good luck and welcome to the forum!
Diane

When a young skink loses the tail, it'll grow back looking more naturally. You'll be able to see the difference, but it won't be too bad. Just make sure it doesn't happen again, and everything else you're going sounds good.
