May have my skink in two months

Postby The Londoner » Wed Jan 30, 2008 11:52 am

Went to a lovely little reptile shop in my area tonight (that I did not even know about) untill I was told about it and I asked him if he had any BTS and he said he had sold the last of two babies he had had two days ago!! just missed them if only I had known  But then he told me that the same breeder he gets them from has four babies but they wont be at the shop for two months so he has taken my name and telephone number, well at least I am getting somewhere :ohyes: Sue

Babies at this time of the year anywhere except Oz are very likely wild caught. Learn the species. If it's an indonesian species, assume wild caught (or mother was). If it's an Oz species, it's CBB. I've found that "Breeder" in pet store lingo often means "Importer" or "Supplier".

Wild caught animals or CB (mother wild caught pregnant) animals are likely to have parasites and worms. BTS from pet stores or pet store "breeders" often also have mites and haven't been kept or fed properly. Please keep all this in mind.

If you like the baby, go for it. Just budget in a reptile vet visit for your new pet ASAP. You'll probably want a check and a fecal done on any new reptile you get. You have 2 months to find a good reptile vet and save up money for the skink and the vet checkup. Good luck!

Just remember, when you get your skink, we want pictures. Many, many pictures.

Thanks Fatal-S I don't think it is likely that the will be wild caught over here and the reptile shop I went to has a very good reputation the guy that owns it said they guy who he gets his babys from owns quite a few BTS and wont even let him have the babies till he has got them useed to being handled and I will give them a good look over before I buy one that is if I get it from him as I have another reptile shop with a very good reputation looking out for one for me to . And dont worry when I get my baby there will be photos oh so many photos you will all get sick of them

Great news for you Londoner. Hey ... I miss your car avatar. Was hoping you would add a bluey hood ornament to it and be good to go.

100% Impossible. Post 20 pics a day and I personally will still not be satisfied. :D

Good point, but also remember that even CB animals can have parasites. There is no guarantee with either WC or CBB. Aggiegirl and her Pele are a great example of an Australian species (Northern) that is CBB being able to have parasites.

My advise would be do knowledge yourself about reptiles in general. Get informed as to what a healthy animal should look, act, etc. and go from there.

Great news!

Nearly ALL blue tongues in pet stores around the world are wild caught (except Australia since that's where they're from).
