Humidity and water?

Postby Kymbadina » Sat Feb 02, 2008 10:08 pm

Hey everyone, I was just wondering..Is it supposed to be humid in my tank? We've estimated him to be a IJ/Eastern mix. I do the tupperware shed box right before and while he is shedding, that helps a lot!
But should it be pretty humid all around? I worry about rotting..
And also, Drinking water..I'm using bottled water right now. Is that good or think I should get an addative like this..

Or somethign like this...

Thanks for your help!

I use tap water for my skinks. If the water is okay for you to drink, it'll be fine for them.

For humid, it'd be best if you got a hydrometer to measure what your humidity is at. Too high leads to mold and respiratory infections, too low can lead to shedding problems and such. Indonesian species (Indo, merauke, IJ, Tanimbar) are more tolerant of high humidity. Australian species (Northern, Eastern, Western, Blotched, Centralian) are less tolerant. Shingleback BTS are the least tolerant of humidity, and can't even have a water dish in their tank.

Try to get a measurement. Personally, I prefer lower, as I can always add a humid hide or soak my lizard if it's having troubles shedding.

35% sounds fine, Why would you want to add that liquid to your skinks water? As long as you offer greens and a calcium rich diet ,you shouldnt need to add anything extra.
MMMmmmmm... Something???????

Yeah, water additives freak my out!

35% humidity is perfect...

+ 2.2 Irian Jaya (Slurpy, Nona, Sassy, Cool Moe Dee)
+ 1.1 Eastern (Eugene, Enzo)
+ 1.2 Northern (Niko, Pearl, Peach)
+ 1.0 Tanimbar Island (TQ)
