Anyone know of a good source for Aspen chips/chunks?
I've been looking for the larger Aspen chips or chunks (maybe 1/2" to 1" in size), but can't find them anywhere. All I can find around here is shredded Aspen, which is too fine and dusty. I've searched online, and can only find very fine Aspen chips (like <1/4").

I found some good stuff in the rabbit/small furry animal section of Petsmart. It looks like good stuff to me and is NOT that finely shredded "snake bedding" or whatever they call it in the reptile section.
The brand is KAYTEE.
I like it and so do the blueys...or so it seems!

I haven't really noticed much dust, but I am sure it is there...it states it is processed to minimize dust, etc....I don't seem to have a problem with any dust that bothers me.

You know what...just checked...if you get the BIG bags (4.0 cu ft, I think) and uncompressed then it seems the chips are bigger, I would say avg. of about .5" by .25" if I had to take a guess by visual review. They are less then 1/16th thick though...probably less then 1/32".
If you get the smaller "compressed" bags, then it appears to start looking more and more like the shredded stuff.

Yes, that's *exactly* the kind of thing I'm looking for. But does anyone know of a U.S. vendor of that or something similar? I would imagine it would be prohibitively expensive to import.
Here's the picture Raven_Vivi was referring to:

It was posted by zakkhogan in the U.K., and he says it is called "Chipsi Extra XXL". But I'll be danged if I can find anything like that in the U.S.

Craig,
thank you so much for providing all that information! That was above and beyond the call of duty!
I have contacted the U.S. branch of that company, and the marketing guy I spoke with is going to look into the availability of this product in the U.S. and let me know.
I will post here if I find anything, since I'm sure others might be interested as well. (Or as Leigh suggested, buy a chipper and go into the business myself!)

I'm finding a lot of sources for wood chips for grilling or smoking, but none of them carry beech. Does anyone know if it would be safe to use oak, apple, pear, cherry, maple, alder, pecan, or other hardwood chips as a substrate? (Because those seem to be more readily available, if expensive...)
