I'm not sure what you want us to vote for in the poll, if its what you think we should suggest for you,it will depend on where in the world you are.If you're from Auss you can only have the native species, in the northern hemispere I'd say Irian Jaya or Merauke or indo(good easyish beginner pets), but at the end of the day its your money to do with what you feel fit to do with it!!
MMMmmmmm... Something???????

hehe
Leigh is right about availability but money is a limiting factor too. If you live in the US and want to get a $shingleback$ and let me babysit, that would be quite alright!!!!!!!!!!! I love my Northerns but I can promise I would have difficulty finding your shingleback when you came to reclaim it....

Im hoping that you arent getting a Northern just because that is what got the most number of votes. Yes, in general the Northern, Eastern and the Irain Jaya species are known to be the best for beginners. However, i feel that you should do as much research as possible on all the species you are interested in and find one that best fits your lifestyle and needs. Of course their really isnt much difference between the species, but things like the average length of the species would be one thing you need to put into consideration. Use the search function on the forum and find previous posts about the different species. Educate yourself as much as you can about each species before making a decision.
Just my 2 cents.

Is $400 really going to afford a BTS, the tank, the tank deco, the lighting/heating, and food? I'm not in the US, so I'm not sure how much it'll cost you.

It should cover the costs.
$100 for BTS
$100 for cage (30gal critter cage)
$50 for decor and bedding
$75 for lighting fixtures and bulbs
I might have estimated high on some, but this will probably be close for what one pays to setup a BTS habitat I would imagine.

Well, I think it could be just enough to get started...especially if you take advantage of possible deals...on craigslist, etc. It could be hard if you get everything from a pet store....
