Substrate Change!

Postby Funda » Wed Feb 13, 2008 12:36 am

I used to use white gravel as substrate - never liked it.
I couldnt find any other substrate to use and we had no reptile stores to supply them either, so i was stuck!
I asked if i could use cat littler are another option, in OT thread.
And i could, only if it was 100% with no chemicals added etc etc.

And now im using 100% recycled paper cat litter.
I forgot who told me about the cat litter (forgot  ) lol
But i'd like to thank them because i love it :D

Here are some pics..

I PUT THEM IN THE TANK TO SEE IF THEY LIKED IT - THEY DID

I do believe I told you about that one! It's the breeders choice kitty litter right? The cream and green bag with the kitten on the front.

I used to use that one - but I found the DR Harrys one is even better! Next time you do a total clean out - look for the Dr Harrys one. It's softer, but it's the 100% recycled paper stuff like the breeders choice. Check out my personal Gallery for pics of my enclosures with the Breeders choice.

The only problem I found - is that it leaves a bit of dust at the bottom, so when you clean the tank, out a hankey over your nose and mouth. the Dr Harrys one doesn't seem to be as Dusty.

If any of you americans are interested, Go to www.fibrecycle.com.au - They also sell it in the states - but it's under a different name. It's all on the website anyway.

I love Saphia's tail. It looks like a stumpy tail. Cute BTS. Tank looks very nice, good job.

no problems at all! Glad to see that I could've helped you out. It's good stuff, cuts the smell of poo down by half i reckon, plus it kinda looks cool.
You can get it in green from pet stores but it's reptile bedding, not sure of it's exact name, but it's by the same company. Main differences are colour and a hefty price tag. watch out for your blueys poo. You may find that it's being eaten. this isn't really a problem, but it does happen every now and then. Umm also - remember to cover your nose and mouth with a hankey when doing a total clean out!
