First Handling

Postby The Londoner » Sun Feb 17, 2008 1:12 pm

Well you all said I would know when the time was right to handle Ocho so today when I was near he kept coming up to the glass and not running away, so I thought to myself okay lets give it a go.
So I slide back the glass door and put my fingers near him he did not move so I reached out and petted his head , Thanks must be said to Fatal_S as she said he would probably poo all over me so taking advice from someone else (forgive me I forget your name) I took a soft warm towel and let him hide in it so glad I did cause right on cue he let it all out  he got braver and went for a wander over me he liked to hide in my hair but he was really good and I ran my finger rounds his mouth by his eyes over his head down his legs and touched his little toes then down his body to his tail (thought it would be a good idear to get him used to that (skink check-up) when I put him back in his home on his basking rock he was so relaxed I had to put his tail back in so I could shut the door, then he looked at me like hey is that it lol! so all in all went well :ohyes: Sue
Every day's a new day blessed be!

Sounds like things went very well. One other thing don't remember don't get frusterated if one day he seems very tame and mellow and the next he trys to bite. As babies they do that. If you keep handling him you will a super tame adult bluey. Good Luck!

When you reach in to get him I wouldn't linger ... just scoop him up. It seems to be the transition time (are they gonna pick me up??) that leads to confusion and distress. Kind of like pulling out a tooth or ripping off a plaster ... just do it. Glad to hear Ocho evacuation system works. I think it's more of a relief to me that Tattoo when he goes. Sounds like you got a sweet baby there. Good for you! :D

Congratulations! I love little "stories" of the everyday life of a skink and its owner...for me, personally, it helps a lot to hear/see this kind of thing. Just the act of comparing "notes" on interactions is fun and useful. ;)

Congrats on a good first handling and being well prepared for the pipe cleaning! :D
