Sexing by Plugs?

I recently read that a male BTS can be sexed simply by placing him inside a bare-glass container for a few days. If he is a male, sperm plugs will supposedly be visible on the glass. Is this a valid method or just a bunch of nonsense?

well if he's actually dropping the plugs it would work. How old is the bluey you wanna know about?

Yeah, I have one male who drops them with every bathroom break (and it typically has to be when he's ready to mate, he doesn't drop them during summer after mating) but my other males never seen to drop them. IF YOU SEE THEM....then YES! Definitely male.

If you do see a sperm plug it is definatly a male. Like Zack said some male drop one everytime they go to the bathroom. That is what my male does.

I now have 2 skinks and would like to confirm the sex of both. My Indonesian is 1 1/2 years old and my Northern is 2 years old. Would a skink drop plugs this time of the year? I'm assuming that neither of them have recently mated.

do yo house them together or seperately?
if together - does one have scuff marks around the neck area?

1 1/2 may be a bit young, however it's not unheard of for blueys to be sexually mature at that age. What season are you lot in now? Winter right? coming into spring? you should start seeing them sometime soon i would think. My guys drop plugs frequently - but I house a few of mine together - so knowing which one is responsible for the plugs is almost impossible. However - one of my guys that is housed seperately always drops plugs - I'm talking year round.

I wouldnt do the skink in a bottle method, depending on where in the world you are is the main factor, wait until they come out of brumation (if they're still in it) and observe closely if possible at toilet time, look for the heme's they're supposed to pop out after a good turn out.

Does dropping the plugs mean the skink is more fertile?

Completely depends on where you are located, and sometimes depends on whether you have cooled them or not.
