Importing any wild animal is stupid and cruel. They're never treated humanely. *growl*
However, what say you if someone from NA came across a previously imported animal for sale by the stupid person who bought from the importer? Would buying this guy be horrible? What about taking as a rescue? What about reduced price buy?

Heh - Justification!
A responsible buyer would ask for the history of the animal - if told that it was an illegal import - then one SHOULD decline. But what people should and shouldn't do are 2 totally different things.
If the buyer accepted the blueys and knew their history - then the buyer is as bad as the original buyer and importer.

You cannot justify owning an illegally imported animal! In case of course when you asked for the history you were lied too, but then u wouldnt be justifying it coz you wouldnt know would you...i can't believe i jst wrote that!

I don't agree with illegally imported animals, because of how they are treated, but i do think that wild caught animals are essential every now and then for breeding, because of inbreeding.. here really does need to be new additions to the gene pool every now and then.
Especially with things like Shinglebacks because there are so few CB and outside of Australia, the gene pool must be very very limited, making it difficult for other people to start up breeding programs for them because it is so likely that the CB Shinglebacks they do find could be related..
of course, this isn't particularly relevent to anyone who isn't wanting to breed them, heh..

not to be rude blotch but.. isn't that stating the obvious? there haven't been legal fresh genes for 44 years. every bluey is likely related to another over here. and the amount of illegal imports really wouldn't supply enough fresh genes to keep inbreeding out. sorry if this sounds rude it's really not meant to be.

I understand why you'd love one - and i have no doubt whatsoever that you'd take one if given the opportunity (and I'm not judging you for your comment, i'm just putting forward my views on the smuggling issue) - but i find it disturbing that with how much everyone on this site goes on about wild caught Blueys and how wrong it is, that you and others would and in one case have taken in illegally imported Animals.
Doing so supports the illegal wildlife trade and therefore makes anyone guilty of this a hypocrite. I have a Very low opinion of people that do this, and it's downright criminal.
Anyone that owns illegally imported animals should be jailed.
Haha I was joking of course. First, I'm an Eagle Scout, a scout is trustworthy (hahaha), and second, I wouldn't have the money to do it. Third, I don't agree with illegal importation, and I hate being a hypocrite.

yes it is stating the obvious - but lots of newbs frequent this site - and sometimes what may be obvious to you or myself is not for them.
And besides - there are other ways of getting new bloodlines into the states - it's just that the US breeders are so content with inbreeding - they won't spend the money to get them in from Europe or Asia! And there are plently of specimens in Europe and Asia that can be purchased and imported that are un related.
On a side note - hearing about how hard done by America is cuz We here in oz aren't exporting Blueys to them is quite annoying from this perspective.
We can't get animals from anywhere - we can't get Indos, Meraukes, IJ's, or tannies, yet they have everything - granted numbers on certain types are low and dwindling but the fact is they are there and they're not here.
You guys should be thankful that you actually have Aussie Blueys.
(I also don't mean to sound rude - Just trying to get yall to see that you're actually fairly lucky to have international animals over there)
Oh - and john - I'm glad you're of the same thoughts as I am - what's your thoughts on purchasing said illegal imports?

Blotch, I'm looking into getting skinks from Eurasia. Hope it all goes well. Remember the time zone/season problem we spoke of on MSN? Do you think I'll have the same problems shipping from Eurasia? Suggestions?

depending on where abouts. You gotta remember that I'm in the southern hemisphere and you're in the northern - I don't think it would be as much of a problem from eurasia as it would be from Australasia - however there will be a change.
