Amazing shingleback footage

Postby shona » Tue Feb 19, 2008 2:01 pm

Hi guys

Used to be a regular on the board a good while back but haven't posted for ages (still been lurking though :)).

Thought you guys might be interested in a series which has been on the BBC here called Life in Cold Blood. Last night was all about lizards and they had some amazing footage of shinglebacks and also pygmy blueys.

You can watch again on the bbc website http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/page/item/b0090b9g.shtml. The episode is about an hour and, from what I can remember, the blueys are about 20 minutes into it and then there is a 'making of' part for 10 minutes at the end, which is all about stumpys. The episode is available online for a week till the next episode has been aired.

Good to see the board is going from strength to strength, Zach. :)

yeah it's due to Copyright issues. I spoke to the british Channel 4 a while ago when bigBrother was on. I tried downloading an episode that i was told was funny - and i couldn't. As I said - i spoke to Ch4 and they told me it was due to copyright issues. If you're posting something like that on the Net - wouldn't you clear the copyright issues?

May aswell do a torrent search for it. Probably there somewhere.

Aw that's a pity as its pretty cool. Seems silly when it's on the web anyway. The BBC is funded by TV licenses here in the UK but they have lots of international interests so it's not like they're exclusive to here. Oh well...

There's always the DVD when it comes out. :)

Yuri's doing great. I'm just in the process of making a new viv for him as he's a big boy now. Got a unit in the reduced section of ikea so just need glass and some ramps and it's ready to go.

I've been really busy with work and seriously cut down the amount of time I've been online. Great to see the site's so busy. And all the new members (and skinkys they have). Another reason I don't come here so often - I keep wanting to add to my collection when I see everyone's skinks and my OH would kill me if I came home with another lizard. There's waaaay too many cute blueys here lol.

Is it a UK/Europe thing where people call each other Other Half? I have a coworker from Wales who uses that all the time. I rarely hear it otherwise. You guys are so cute.

Aussie say other half too. I think it's mainly a British thing. when you marry - 2 become 1

I sky-plussed that episode. It's amazing that Shinglebacks stay with a single partner their whole life.

The footage of the Five Lined and Pygmy Skinks with the little fibre optic probe was cool as well.

That's actually questionable. They do meet up with the same mate yearly - however - They have also been known to take other mates. I guess it all comes down to scent.

Thanks for the link! I was able to see quite a bit of it when I did a site search for "life in cold blood", but some of it will disappear in the next 3 and 4 days ....then it will be "Wait for the dvd.. " :D
