Postby BlueyBabe » Thu Feb 21, 2008 8:04 pm

Hi everyone!

Today I went to a few pet stores. We went to about two diffirent ones, on the second try we fould some CareFresh on sale!
I found this at petco! =]

I bought a 23 litter bag of white CareFresh and a 10 litter bag of the colored CareFresh. The color of the 10 litter was Blue!!
The total cost was $23.49 ...

See the Blue and White colors!

ImageHim a few tunnels later... Cute!

Hershal really loves his new CareFresh. As soon as I put it in, he went right in and made his way to one end of the cage to the other! He just loves it!!

Looks like a blue and white snow cone. Has Hershal been to the vet yet?

Yeah Hershal really does love his new Carefresh. This is the first time ever he has
been in or near any CareFresh in his whole life! And he LOVES it!!

No hershal has not been to the vet yet. We cancled his vet appontment because he just shed and his eyes became clear. But in the next week I know they WILL start to get all yucky again. Then we will make another appontment. The vet said as soon as we call in they will take us right in ... =]

Don't woryy if the vet gives hershal an eye cream, then I WILL remove all the CareFresh. :)

Thanks for the comment too!!

That looks neat, I reckon you should put the basking tile on short stilts then he could safely tunnel under it ,giving him even more room to burrow around.
I've just had a thought, why would the eye cream from the vets help if it seems to go with a shed? you could be trying to fix the impossible, you may just have a skink with dodgy eyes.

That may be possible, maybe I just ended up with an skink that has always had Doggy Eyes!

I am reading this from the package;

It is made from White Cellulose Fiber. Pretty much recycled paper? Correct me if I am wrong. =]

Carefresh is one of the most common substrates for BTS in the US.

Not my favorite, but if you like it then great! I'm sure BT will love the burrowing...

i understand why people go for these sort of substrates, but they just make me cringe at the thought of ingestion. especially in shingles as mine literally eat anything. when i first purchased them they were living in a bark substrate and for the first week with me they were passing bark in there feaces.

i know news paper is ugly but it is my only choice.

Well, ive been using carefresh with great success. I was worried about them digesting it but they seem to know what is food and what isnt. Even if they eat their food and a piece of it gets in their mouths they spit it up. Although not every bluey is the same!

no offense but its cellulose it isn't digestible. maybe if bluetongues had a rumen or a very large caecum then yes it would be digestible to a degree. and jsut another warning just because it says its digestible on the pack doesn't mean it is. and if i didn't have them on substrate like this i would never feed them in their cage. wouldn't want any fruit juice soaking some of it and them thinking they can eat it.

The carefresh stuff does pass through the blueys with no problems. How do i know this? I've witnessed it! I used to also have my guys on the recycled paper pellet kitty litter and I saw that pass right through them too.

It doesn't do them any harm, My guys are still eating and pooping and putting on weight and doing their thing like they always do.

yes it will probably go through there system the majority of the time, but it is not worth the risk. just like most of the time grass will pass straight through shingles. but the day something happens that causes impaction you will regret it. i could go eat some string and it would probably pass though but the time that it gets stuck and irritates the digestive lining and starts an internal infection. and thats not including the fact that possibly not all of the paper is passing through, just isnt worth it, i have seen enteritis cause by substnaces less substantial then the above mention.
