Stuff I might need to know

Postby cood123 » Fri Mar 07, 2008 12:17 pm

Ok I've got the basic stuff I need but I still need to know some other things.

1 Wich breed sould I get?
2 Is there a special kind of bedding/tank?
3 What can/can't I feed them?
4 Sould I get a male or female?
People tell me I'm crazy I just smile and thank them for the complement.

Welcome to the forum. :welcome: All of your questions can be answered by reading the care sheet. Give that a whirl and see how you get on.

1) is up to you...many recommend Northerns or IJ for first timers.
2) caresheet
3) caresheet
4) probably won't be able to tell anyway...either would be great, no real difference between them.

1)Completely up to you, Northerns and IJs good for beginners- but depends on where you are in the world!!
2+3) The caresheet is great it has EVERYTHING!! but of course if there's something you cant find just ask :)
4) There is no real difference, either will make a great 'pet'. And you probably won't be able to tell anyway!! They're hard to sex on sight...

Hey there! :btsnet:

I guess you figured out by now that the Caresheet is the #1 place to go for info. When you have the time to sit down and read it be sure to print out the food list! I shrunk mine down and laminated it so I can take it with me when I go grocery shopping.

I have a Northern Bluey. She is the sweetest most docile little creature you'd ever want to meet. Although some say that Northern's are one of the easiest to "tame down", I mostly attribute her behavior to the breeders (Zach and Holly on the forum). The babies are handled alot and I think they become accustomed to the contact straight away. So, no matter if you choose an IJ, a Northern, a Shingleback, etc. be sure you know the breeder and how they treat their babies as well as adults.

About substrates, I use a coconut shred substrate. I used to use Carefresh but it sucked up the humidity in her enclosure. Sammy's enclosure is 48" x 48" x 18" high. Wider is better than higher since they are not climbers. The bigger the better. Mine is a wooden enclosure but lots of people pick up unwanted fish aquariums and they work just as well. I think a front opening enclosure is preferred, though, by some so as not to scare the bluey by having to come from above and pick them up.

If you are looking for a baby, I think there will be some available in and around June of this year? That is when I got Sammy last year and that's when it seemed everyone was popping them out! :D

Anyway, good luck and when you get your bluey you MUST post pic's!
