Satisfactory diet?

Postby Lizardqueen&Chuckie » Fri Mar 07, 2008 11:59 pm

Ohk, I just want to make sure that hes not going to become too thin or fat or diseased, tell me if his diet is satisfactory and what i should change. this is what chuckie gets:

A meal every 3 or so days that consists of - a few snails
- cat food
- a small salad including squash & bokchoi, but sometimes banana & grapes
- I do have a roach farm going to feed him, but they always just seem to escape everytime i feed him them and bury themselve in the substrate and disappear or die. so ive basically steered clear of them, anyone got a good method of feeding them to him so they dont escape? They are speckled feeder roaches, and hes not very used to met yet, so hand feeding isnt really an option.

thanks a bunch, Sarah :D

Sounds fine. A variety of veggies would be good. Make sure the cat food is good quality, as in made of meat, not junk. The snails are wonderful for food.

For the roaches, I'd suggest feeding out-of-tank, in a roach-proof bin or something. Not only will you not have to worry about them disappearing, your skink will associate outside time with yummy roaches!

Can the roaches climb the walls of the tub if there's no vasoline? Some roaches can, others can't. Personally I wouldn't have the vasoline anywhere the BTS could lick it up though. But yes, a good sized bin would be great for feeding.

yeah they can. I dont have to completly coat the walls with vaso, i can just paint a strip around the top where he can reach it, but the roaches cant escape :D

thanks for all your help!

I have a clear plastic storage box with holes drilled in it. Has a lid. That way I can put the blueys in with no substrate - nowhere for bugs to hide and they can't get out. What's best is you can see the action.

I know this will take the fun out of it, but go ahead and put your roaches in the freezer. Thaw and serve. I know dead/live food is never any fun, but at least they wont be wasted.
My BTS can read. (I think)
