Youtube videos: breeding attempts and more...

Postby jasjmm27 » Sun Mar 09, 2008 12:38 pm

Just thought I would share a video I took with my digital camera (A650), not the best quality but it works! :)

More to come, it takes like 20 minutes to upload to youtube, so only have two so far...

Here is a video of my northerns "thinking" about breeding. :) Silvia is a pretty tough lady and not giving Mack an easy way in. Plus, it seems like Mack isn't all that familiar with what to do. ;)

Yeah, unfortunately it seems like Annubis isn't very receptive this time around...probably since she wasn't cooled much at all...definitely not "properly". Fenix is ready and rearing to go...alas he can't do it all on his own! ;)

looks like your male is keen but clueless - seems he doesn't realize he needs to scratchthe top of the tail. There is one vid that you posted that your female slightly raises her tail - but as i just said your male doen't scratch her. it's like he's waiting for her to jump on.

Yeah, Mack does seem like he "wants to", but is clueless what to do when he gets a hold of her...my other female (Rancilia) is VERY receptive, but he doesn't seem interested in her...he only likes the one (Silvia) that slams him into the glass/wall and bites his head! Maybe he is just too old? He is, supposedly, only about 6 years old, so I round up to 8...if the male shows interest, shouldn't "instincts" take over or are some males just "duds" and can't figure out mating?

Any advice on introductions people might have would be appreciated...in regards to the "receptive" and (what I feel is) properly cooled northerns, anyway. :)

I have tried in the males cage, in the bathtub, in a smaller sterilite tub, etc. I get, by far, the most reactions in the females cages...there was some interaction in the bathtub with a heating lamp setup...but not near as much as in the females terraria.

Your Northern are very close! I had trouble with my male to. He seemed he did not know what to do. I just kept trying and then the moment came. I guess it just takes time for some?

You might try taking them out of that tank and putting them on the floor somewhere. I used a small animal play pen on the floor so that there wasn't anywhere that they could hide. It looked like your male got hung up on the rock structure there and couldn't get turned around, then he gave up. He's eager, so that's good. Maybe it would help to just make it a little easier for him.
