Not basking?

Postby NiftyJosh » Thu Mar 27, 2008 7:42 am

Again with the new tank thing...it's been a week, she comes out and roams around, but she has yet to warm up in the warmer end of the tank.

She's eating, pooing, and drinking but won't get warm.

I don't think I should be worried but don't they need warmth to digest?

just out of curiosity, are you by her tank 24/7? is there 15mins or 2 hours a day that you are not by her cage?

Well to be honest, I have a camera that records on my laptop and sends the stream to my cell phone so I can see what shes up to.

When I get home from school or work I zoom through the few hours I wasn't home to see what her habits are without me there, and they really don't change too much.

Basking spot w/ rock is 100-102f depending on amounts of sunlight entering my room.

Area around basking spot is anywhere from 90-80

Mid cage is around 70 and water bowl side is 69-50

I really don't know...it just seems like she likes to be cool. When I have her out, she'll often fall asleep on my chest under a blanket. When it starts to warm her up, she'll crawl out and fall asleep on the wooden floor which isn't very nice even to my feet.

well if hes pooping, then he must be digesting the food. I dont see that it is something to be worried about.

Lynyrd never actually basks, he often climbs on he's rocks for a few seconds.. the longest ive seen him near them was when it was very cold in the house, so during the night he laid next to them

I don't think you need to worry, not all skinks seem to "Bask" in the classical sense but as long as the entire viv is warm enough and they are eating and pooing there should be no worries.
