Hey. I have a question about Cricket, first though... He is doing really well. He has been fully away for about a month and active. I have been letting him run around my room every day and he seems to enjoy that a lot. There were a couple days that I didn't let him out and he stayed in the corner trying to climb the glass for hours. He still doesn't like to be held, but is making progress there too, AND doesn't hide when you come into the room any more!
So, my question is, he hasn't eaten for over a week now. Last he ate was a (1) cockroach 5 days ago. He is drinking normally, just not eating. He is shedding right now, could that be the cause? I looked at his mouth and it seems fine, no inflammation or redness. I figured I would wait until after his shed to start panicking, but just in case figured I would check in here to be on the safe side.
Thanks ahead of time!

Shedding often causes a change in eating habits. There's also the possibility he's holding out for another yummy roach. No worries. After his shed he'll likely be up and eating again.

When Duke shed, he ate like a monster afterwards ^_^
Shedding takes a lot of work for them ;D
Some blueys decrease their appetite before a shed, some increase it. I wouldn't be too worried until he's done shedding ^_^

poor cricket finally shed, its been like 2 weeks. i was starting to get a little paranoid about it and soaking him everyday to get the shed off. then all the sudden i look in on him and its like he's wearing a loose bag. i took him out and was able to remove all the shed very easily. i wish i had my camera because it was so funny. he hated being touched and held, but wanted the shed off so bad. it was like he would calm down and let me pick at him then suddenly realize that i was touching him and start squirming and huffing. he tried to do his sewage spray (my roommate kept ducking for cover when he tried, she has heard the horror stories) but because he refused food for the whole two weeks, all that came out was this white stuff. urates? i don't think so. urates are kind of like a paste, right? and this was more like a slime... i'm growing more and more convinced that he is a boy. although i didn't see any male parts, he was facing away from me, what else could he be shooting from there? anyways, he is currently very angry with me. i think i will make him an omelet tomorrow or maybe give him some or my spaghetti squash.
oh! something else, his colors are way darker, noticeably darker. before he was rusty orange, but now its deff brown. i know they change colors slightly with each shed, but this is way different. i'll post pictures as soon as i can, but currently my camera is being held hostage by my sister for concert tickets.

Yay! I'm glad he got the shed off
Trikks had an extra layer of shed, so when he shed this time, he went from dark to stunning oranges! He's so pretty. Too bad he hates me.

Leigh wrote:Thats a funny one, my little man is getting darker, he'll be shedding in the next week or so, but he comes out the other side of it lighter, how old is yours I wonder if its this growing up phase ,where he's developing his best colours.
Jax was really dark until he shed, and he also came out more orangey-brown - much lighter after the shed. Its so pretty to see, I'm hoping Nemo gets more orange too. These guys are 5 months. Kira is much lighter than either of them. I'm curious to see what happens as they mature.
