Parent Issues with BTS

Have you tried the "DONT tell me your scared of it dad" approach.

Go for the,"I promise I wont ask for anything else" tactic.

Get an enclosure built in the shed/garage/outhouse, that way it wont actually be in the house.

Tell him he doesnt have to look after it so he wouldnt need to worry about that.

They are GREAT for the garden as they will eat snails/bugs/ grubs, that attack his prize winning fruit/veg patch

My mom said no after 10 hamsters, 5 guinea pigs, a cockatiel, an english lop, and a pekingnese. She didn't realize that I had two veiled chamelions and a fat-tail gecko in my closet (it was a walk-in) By the time she found out I had them for a year and had a 3.9 GPA in high school....she couldn't say no. (i also had a job so I could pay for everything)

Her discovering my critters was better then her finding my brothers pink toe tarantula walking along the curtain valence.

first, the bts wont take the space of most animals, it wont take care from the others as it is a herp and doesn't require a lot of exercise, etc. Basically make it seem like it requires almost nothing, not like a dog. Make sure they know you have the time and space for this guy, and that it wont interfere in your life. This may not be completely true, but it's close enough.

I'm one of the resident moms on this site---but of course, I am also a pushover when it comes to animals! I want to just share with you a few of the things that make blueys great pets for moms:
1) they/their tanks do not smell like rodents
2) everything they need to eat can be bought at the grocery store
3) they do not require much daily care or frequent cage cleanings
4) they are relatively healthy and don't require regular vet care (vaccines)
5) they brumate during the winter
6) they are cheap to care for after initial purchases
Remind them about how much you have learned in preparation for ownership. I made my son fill out research questionnaires and he did his science project on it. If he were older, I would have expected him to finance some of the initial outlay. Search online (craigslist) for good deals on tanks and accessories. Share results with your folks so that they see your perserverance. Many times parents say NO because they are afraid the novelty will wear off and the pet will be forgotten. Convince them that this is not the case. Good luck!!!

Ask if you can have a small section of the garden to grow veg and greens in for your skink(you dont have yet),if/when he refuses on the grounds that you're skinkless, you can suggest that you (the family) can eat them as well to save buying,and on about fruits like strawberries,Blueberries, tell them you want to learn some horicultural techniques anyway, and ask if dad could help(does he do any form of gardening?)use the old "It'll be good father n son time.

Good luck! But just remember that genders aren't easy to tell, so you may both end up with guys or 2 girls. Get the same subspecies too if your going to breed (2 northern for example) and do lots of research before breeding. Your project should do great, and if it's still a no go, keep trying!

You should probably first own a BTS for a long while before even thinking about trying to breed!

ok, maybe i am moving too far in the future first i got to get one. I might have a chance for a final stand with the big decision maker (dad) and have mom there with that caresheet that i read and highlighted and added up the totals. BTW...wats a cheap price for a tank?

I get my 40 gallon breeder tanks for 88 dollars. I consider that pretty cheap.

I built my dual tank for about $250, should be able to build the new ones for less, unless I get an actual carpenter to do it.
