If we stop breeding our obviously tainted easterns, we totally lose them. So we do what we can to not slide even further away from pure than we already are.
Absoutely, you do what you gotta do!
I just think they shouldn't necessarily be called easterns. They're "easterns"
Or call them Un-australian easterns....

Exactly, the only Easterns that I know of essentially are from Ray, and they come from the wild caught grandparents. They were captured in the north where the Easterns do not have the eye bands...
Easterns used to be like Northerns in the 80's here. Then the IJ's hit around 94 and the Easterns all but disappeared. It's weird. I agree with Blotch that a lot got intergraded when Northerns began becoming popular. This animal could be a product of that, it's so hard to say.

Lisa wrote:Luke, some QLD easterns are quite pale and have little or no banding. And they're quite large. Am sure Pike has some like that.
If the one in this pic has eastern in it, then it came from a Queenslander
Yeah - I understand that there are some natives that have no eye bands, but the majority do have them. And most easterns up north IMO - would be intergrades to some extent. Both Vic and NSW (excluding Northern NSW) would have the purest form of Easterns - and that cannot be disputed.
I like the whole "Easterns" comment, and I'm the same way, however, I'm more likely to be "American Bluey Mutts". hehehe I'm shocking.
In Regards to Rays Easterns, well on one hand I understand why he'd want them, but on the other hand, accepting Animals that have clearly been smuggled into the country is doing nothing more than condoning smuggling, and apparently we're all against that, right? Anyway, i'll let this one go - illegal wildlife trading doesn't sit well with me - no matter what the reason or the opportunity.

huh? you don't not? dbl negatives = positives.
does this mean you don't mind smuggling animals that have a secure status?
If this is the case - it's not really smuggling, it's importing/exporting, and that is fine if the laws aren't in place to stop it and you have the appropriate licenses.
Plus we can't forget the risk of contaminating other countries with parisites etc... Look at the Cane Toad! - Sure licking them is fun but still...
Anyway, I'd love a merauke - but I aint gonna look for one on the black market.

Ray doesn't have the smuggled animals. He ended up with the kids or grandkids of the smuggled animals or something like that after the smuggler was busted. He'll have to tell the story - it's interesting.
And anyone on this forum would be a fool NOT to accept a smuggled animal unless it was sold or offered illegally. Once they're confiscated, they usually don't send them back.
And Blotch! The Easterns in the south are the darker one's with dark eyes just like the dark Blotched in the south of australia. The one's in the Northern and eastern areas have absolutely nothing to do with intergrades.... Of course, essentially all species of BTS came from one species, so you could say they're all intergrades, haha.

I just watched a hilarious documentary ont he cane toad! Although the whole invasion is tragic in many respects, this australian made documentary was hilarious and it put the whole thing perspective. I can't remember what it's called!
But anyway, back to the bluey at hand!

I like to thank Zac for putting this topic up for me for I could not log in to do it myself. How I got logged on now I dont know.
ANYWAY....I like to thank everyone for their imput. It was sold to me as an IJ but after looking at it a while I started having my doubts it was. It looks eastern and IJ to me as well. No matter what is, I think it is still a beautiful bluey.

Zach - that comment about Easterns has confused me. please clarify your meaning.
Darker easterns are from the south? not 100% true.
Darker blotchies are form the south - definately not true!!!
Now, if in regards to Easterns you're talking strictly about the eye banding, as i said in a previous post on this thread, Most (except ones from Northern NSW and QLD) have the eye banding. So I think you are kinda saying what I said. (shrug) But even so, The majority of Easterns are found in NSW and Victoria, and you'd be hard pressed to find one without eye banding.
In Victoria, we get Easterns with quite bright and rich greens, as well as Easterns with bright greys and oranges. I'm not sure where you got that darkness info, but it's a bit off dude.

Stinga, I forgot to mention that I think your new acquisition is a stunner, regardless of how many mums and dads it took to make him
Luke, having seen easterns from Vic and NSW in person and in lots of pics, I think the Vic easterns have a much darker look to them in general than the NSW ones. Ours tend to be more grey and tan (not as much as the QLD's but) and the Vic ones are much more richer in colour, they tend to have a bronze or copper or green look to them.
I suspect it has a little to do with their environment, ie the Vics have a little more darkness in them to soak up the sun more as it's a little cooler down there than up here. I'd love a Vic eastern!
I agree about the blotchies. The alpines (found here and there) are, with the exception of their spots, much darker than the lowlands (not found here in NSW). The alpine's base colour is essentially black, whereas the lowlands sometimes vary to shades or grey or charcoal.

LISA - Thx for your 2 cents!
Yes here in Vic we have many Greenish tinged Easterns, and browner ones, but we also have the greyish ones with the orange bellys.
I wouldn't say that Vic Easterns are Darker though. I have 2 green ones that have quite bright greens, and one greyish one that has a bright orange belly.
And yeah - the whole Blotchie comment was way off huh? Sure Alpines have that yellow - but there's more black than anything else. Even having a look at the Lowlands vs Alpines in the blotchie section shows that Lowlands are lighter in coloring than Alpines. Ah well, I guess this is the beauty of this board, people get to learn.

And also that, just like people, their appearance is not uniform! Like, how many shades of blonde or red hair or brown hair is there? You can have two so-called red-heads next to eachother but that doesn't mean their hair colour is exactly the same. You can be a Ginger Meggs or you can be Auburn - totally different - but you're still a red-head.
Blueys, and most animals, are the same. They aren't ever going to be identical. Who knows why. Mum probly had it off with the milkman
