Ya, Pryce and one of Zach's skinks make a noise that sounds like a balloon when they don't like something. Pryce does it when he's been picked up and wants to struggle. They can make some odd noises.

This is quite an interesting thread but when you own hundreds of Tiliqua in your life they all make somewhat different noises but all very similar to a huff or hiss - as I said in varying pitch, resonance etc. From my years of observation, skinks hiss/huff when stressed depending on the degree of antagonism. Some may hiss when you open its tank. Some may hiss when you place a food tray in front of it. Some may hiss when a shadow goes over its head. From my observations they hiss when stressed often stopping the moment they realize its food or your friendly hand.
My advice is to test this theory out on numerous skinks - a dozen or so to confirm all this. You may be on to something or may be completely mistaken.
Thanks for sharing,
Andrew

Here's two videos of Sunny doing the grunt/squeak thing...
The sound of letting air out of a balloon slowly is a good description. The first video shows the squeak pretty loud, and the second one shows clear hisses first, then a series of grunts/squeaks. He really only makes the sound when he's struggling to do something...like climbing up your hand for example.

Thanks Zach for directing me back to this thread.
I've had hundreds and I mean hundreds of skinks adults and babies of just about all the species with the exception of the Western and Shingleback. However I've held, seen dozens of Shingles in my life. The only sound I've heard from icking up a skink that doesn't want to be held is a hiss (of different sound depending on the species) or a quick huff of air sometimes long and drawn out or quick in rapid succession; it varies inbetween.
With that being said, I've NEVER heard a skink may any sound even close to what Sunny is emitting. You're right - it does like like a balloon being pinched with the air coming out.
I don't see Sunny being ill in any way so this must be something very special indeed. Maybe I need to really restrict my indos and see if they'll make that sound too. (Not that I'm saying anyone is really restricting their skink's movement or anything.)
Quite interesting!

I've never heard anything like that out of a reptile! lol
SweetPea has a loud windy huff when she's mad and something that sounds like a sneeze when shes mildly irritated. Although shes never happy about anything (except sleeping lazily) she does have an "exploring" noise she makes. I call it her "wuff", she makes it constantly while exploring something new and sometimes in my ear like shes trying to tell me secrets =)
