I totally agree! In fact - and with no disrespect to your lovely lads and ladies, Lukey - a garden skink could probably win a stoush with my Ralphie. He's an eater not a fighter

Just the angle, Kathy! Plus, blotchies are known for their thicker tail that doesn't taper like some other flavours do. It's a thing of beauty .... would be so tasty and tender and full of meaty goodness on the bbq

I'd love one of the 23inch plus whoppers :cloud9: mmmm ... whoppers .... aarrrgghhhh

I might actually win this one! I have a female Irian Jaya that weighs in at 980 grams and is 22 inches long. When I got her she was almost 1200, thats what daily feedings and catfood can do to a skink. I also have a Merauke that is at least 25 inches, probably more like 26. She is mostly tail and weighs in at around 950 grams.

I'll have to measure and weigh Booger and Chunka again. I know they both lost some weight while cooling this winter and I can't remember their lengths. I'll post as soon as I get around to taking them to work for the baby scale :)

You'll have to post pictures of the Merauke....that'd practically be the record on this forum....

My IJ, Lil Thang, is gigantic. She's 23" (minus 1/2" that she nibbled off) and 1032 g. She might be a tad on the overweight size, but overall she's just a big, solid skink. She really hasn't eaten more then a few bites since last fall, but she maintains her weight. I think it has to do with her slow metabolism. She is the laziest skink I have. Here are two pictures of her. In the second picture, you can really see how long she is. My husband is holding her, and he's about 6'1" and 210.

Hey Saille - what happened to Chuff's tail? I don't think I know the story. Poor guy - he'd be at least an inch longer with full tail!!

Marie - wow, thats a big IJ! How does Lil Thang compare to your other two (IJs - I assume the tanny isn't winning any length contests!)?

Wow, Iceman, where are you located? Is your female looking for a hot Merauke Male to hook up with? :hubba:

Katrina, before I got Chuff, he was abused horribly. Long story short, We thought MBD until we got the x-ray. The vet thinks a dog or something got a hold of him and shook him violently. He has broken ribs that are now healed, and his spine was crushed, and of course, his poor tail.
But he acts fine, does the hula if I don't support his back legs properly, and can move like greased lightening when he wants to.
The vet said if you don't tell them they're handicapped, they won't know! :)

Wow - glad he's got a good home now! Did you get him as an adult?

I know how tough they are - Nemo is the same way. No one told him he has a broken arm (healed, but not properly) and is missing all but one toe!

biggest and heavyest i seen in person was a nt type northern bluey,26 inches, 67 cm long,a big lass that was born in 95,shes also the heavyest ive ever held to,a little tubby but not to bad,ive seen a 61 cm blotch, measured it personally, thats a lowlands as well,it was over 20 years old,and a wild eastern bluey from the mornington peninsula at 62 cms, also measured by me.
alot of the info on books states average lengths,eg measure from museum specimens, ill have to measure a cpl of mine that i have now,my big female alpine and female lowlands are my longest 2,but they arent the big as ive seen blotchy wise

Aha baby alligator ;D

I shall have a field day with that response.

"Well, my bath tub was occupied with piranhas and the pool is being done right now... ;3

And there aren't any more dogs in the neighborhood so I though he should go for a walk...strange thing isn't it? the disappearance of dogs?? XD

Don't worry he doesn't bite. He hasn't pooped today however~ ^_^

I'm fairly certain that Bianca isn't gravid, but she's currently tipping the scales at 972.....I think. I'm starting to wonder if my last reading on her was inaccurate. The floors in my house are sloped so it might have messed with the scale's calibration....who knows.....

Haha lisa - he certainly seems to be an eater!

I'm gonna dispute the thicker tail comment - however I'll also agree. ALPINES are known for the thicker tails - Lowlands have beautiful normal tails. Just another difference between the 2.

ok i just measured jak, after cleaning his cuts. He's 39.5 cm, so what's that like 16 inches? maybe...
not sure about his weight, but he'd probably be close to 500 grams ..he was 410 last time i think, and hes grown since then.

oi blotch,my males could beat up your males, lol, lowlands females can get pretty solid tails as well, but yeah, alot of the alpines appear to get really thick tails in comparison, lisa ralphy is a mighty fine looking specimen, his tail looks solid in the pics, but he doesnt look over weight body wise,so maybe the camera playing tricks on us as tails closet to the camera
and luke, why do u think your males could beat up ralphy, aggresive males that do that sort of caper i find are younger males, and with my lot,if the younger male trys going a bigger male,it gets put in its place and usually gives up ,mine only do it in the breeding season though,a couple of weeks each year, the rest of the time they get on well, thats over ten males living in the same cage to,my 2 biggest males, lowlands dont chase other males, they copulate with the girls, but they will put young aggressive ones in there place if they have a go
