hi guys thanks for replying , richard c i'm in nsw . and i know he does look a bit mean in this pic but he isn't at all i think it's just the angle,he's as tame as can be.he is now 23 cm.

he's 8 months old 23cm i'm not sure how big that is in inches but he hasn't grown at all since i released him and now he's returned . i used to feed him and his siblings kiwi fruit strawberrys mince and vegies cans of two fruits and sometimes some deluxe dogfood they were all big eaters , i've only had him back 4 2 days and so far he hasn't really eaten anything ,so i'm not sure if he has ate at all in the past couple of months but there was 1 runt i'm not sure but i'm thinking he could be my reggie what do u guys think ,could he be getting ready to shed he likes to sun bake but he also likes to hide mainly coming out in the afternoon.

Ive just had 1 that lives in my garden come back to after 6 moths in brumation . Oh great to c him again .

Can you even take them from the wild then get your licence afterwards?
Im not sure it works that way and they will consider Reggie yours......i could be wrong though
My Eastern Bronson is about 20 cms and he is 6 months old and is healthy....just small.

no he didn't escape i found him and his 8 siblings early jan of this year i kept them and fed them so no local stray cats got to them cos we have a lot cats and magpies hanging around in our garden ,the same place i found the baby blueys i released them all when i thought they were big enough and quick enough now i have had reggie turn up literally at my front door still as tame as b4 so i'm adopting , he's better of with me ,me think anyway

i don't know how the whole license thing works but i really will need to have 1 so i can take him and get him vet checked and maintain general wellbeing,

Im in Newcastle NSW, i got my licence recently and it is an easy procedure but im not sure if they will let you keep Reggie as you got him first so to speak. But hopefully someone who knows more about it in NSW will help you.

LOL, you're very close!
I just printed out the form i got off their website, faxed it in and they sent my licence in the mail. I brought my bluey off a guy i know who lives in Morisset...not sure if you know it. There is also a guy at Kurri selling all different ages from $30 so if you had to buy one im sure you will find one in our area.

Go here, fill out the form and send in with your license fee, and they will issue you with a paper license in a couple of weeks. This page will also give you all the info about what species you can keep, laws, etc. You will be issued with a reptile keeping records book that you complete and return to National Parks once a year in April.

Legally, you cannot keep him. You cannot take any native fauna from the wild. In NSW you can only purchase reptiles from a private seller, via internet, reptile mags, forums etc.

Of course, illegally, what you choose to do is up to you
Bear in mind, the NPWS have been known to turn up at your house and check to see if your licence info matches what you are keeping.

You will be surprised how well he will go in the wild. Even captive bred blueys are not truly domesticated. Another option, if you truly believe he cannot go back into the wild is to contact WIRES who may be able to either assist you in adopting him legally, or he may be sent to a wildlife park.

thanks lisa i've just been on the website looks like i won't be able to keep him ,however i have just filled in my license form so i'll be purchasing another bluey shortly ,preferably a babie so i might have to wait a couple of months. regretably reggie will be released but i'm sure he'll come back. i'll let u all know when i get another 1.

It is a possibility. There are two girls on here (mouseinamilkbottle and wallflowergirl) who were, with the assistance of someone from WIRES, allowed to keep their wild ones. They too live in the Newcastle area. However, there's was injured and so that helped their case as it was determined that he could not go back into the wild. You could always PM them for suggestions but!

Best places to buy are either from some of the aussies on here (Colin Hamilton always has babies after Chrissy), www.aussiepythons.com, www.reptilesdownunder.com/ahc/search.php. Petlink too, but you can get some dodgy's on there.

If you see them for sale in a petshop or local paper, steer clear because that's illegal, or if someone cannot produce their licence details.

Also, if you wish to purchase from another state, you will need to get an import licence. But really, in the next couple of months when the babies start poppin, you should have no trouble finding one more locally. Plus, it gives you a good chance to get everything ready for the new arrival!

Can you just let him stay in your garden and supply him with food and somewhere to hide/stay but not totally trapped, like an outdoor enclosure with a skinky front door/flap ,that way you'll be keeping him without actually keeping him, or the fact that he's so tame makes it dangerous for him to stay in his natural surroundings.

hi leigh,when i released him 6 months ago it was in my garden and i think he pretty much lived there this is the 3rd day i've had him back 4 and yes he is so tame i, the cats and maggies are what i worry most about maggies are always in my front garden it's full of mulch and dried leaves there always pecking for worms etc and i've already lost 2 birds thanks to the neighbours cats but the law in nsw is pretty strict when it comes to "capturing wild animals"as they would call it .
