If you don't like long legs you won't like this one:
No idea what it is

These are the stripey huntsmans. I like these ones the best but they're a bit skitty. They get plate size big !

The first one is kinda creepy, but not too bad. The second one is purdy. I could go for one of those.

Ok, I have to say, I lived in Aussie-land for a year -- and I never saw a bunch of creepy spiders like you have Lisa! I saw ONE redback the whole time I was there, this includes camping and hiking and all that stuff. I think Lisa just lives in the middle of some majorly creepy zone.... :paranoid:

huntsmans  mine are still growing and aren't quite adult sized yet....they are the central American variety though and don't get nearly as big as yours. Spiders are fun.

That was a Hustsman they found in the bananas, right?? Show us a pic!

Shadow -- that's exactly what all the kids said growing up, it's amazing how myths spread. Daddy long legs are the most venomous spiders alive, but their fangs are too small to piece the skin we'd say!

HAHAHA! Those guys are freaky! The girl isn't too bad, either... I think they proved that the venom was not as "bad" as a Black Widow, I don't think it was proven that they weren't venomous at all, just that they weren't the most venomous in North America...At least that is what I pulled out of my memory... :?

After a little research (love wikipedia!)

Daddy Long-Legs
Myth statement Status
A Daddy long-legs spider has the most potent venom of all spiders, but is unable to pierce human skin.

Notes
Busted

A Daddy long-legs was able to bite through the skin of Adam's arm. He reported nothing more than a very mild, short-lived burning sensation. Analysis of the venom proves it does not approach the potency of the Black widow spider.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't ALL spiders have some form of venom? I know my spider is a common one, not at all dangerous to people, yet I can actually see the venom attacking a centipede she bites. I'm pretty sure every spider is venemous, most just not enough to harm a human.

People say that Daddy's are the best spiders to have around the house because they eat all the other insects, yet I have never seen one with anything in its web!

Never the less, my showers are always way too long because I spend most of it trying to help the spiders out first

I've never seen a Daddy web. I just assumed they don't use webs and just hunted their food?

I thought that too, but they always seem to be near webby stuff.
Maybe I just don't clean my house often enough! My house'd give the Addam's Family one a run for its money this time of year

you are mostly right. Some of the more *primitive* (and by that I mean, less evolved, not any less adept at what they do) spiders dont' have venom glands. My Malaysian trap door has no venom. However, I would say a good 90%+ of all spiders have venom.

Note: I'm not including members outside of Aranea when I say spider...there are cave spiders, sun spiders, etc that while they are commonly referred to as spiders, aren't classed the same and many of these do not have venom either.
