It will be much easier and much better when you get that Tempgun. :) That will make it easier to see what the actual temperature is at the basking site...

What is the temp in your house? In the rest of the cage? I don't believe a 100 Watt bulb can't get you to 100 F at only 10-12" high...unless it is really cold in your house (below 65F = really cold in this case) :)

Here is the tile that I am using and love it. With it being a dark color and a natural slab of stone, it absorbs a lot of heat.

The temp around my room is 70ish right now and the digital temp still says 80F. =T

I felt the tile too and it's not that hot at all~
I flipped the tile over becuz my tile is whitish/gray
So now it's reddish/brown~

And they sold the last temp gun at my pet store. I was &%# =X

oh, wow!? That seems to be pretty close. I guess I can't figure out the exact circumstances, but at least you are getting the temps dialed in! Good work! ;)

I also want to mention how pleased I am to see that you are doing your "homework" before getting the animal and having the cage all set up with the exact temps and everything.

Good Job!

hehe Ty~~ ^_^
I want to be sure that my baby's around for a loooonnnggg time =)

My mom thinks it's my way of revenge because she won't let me have furry pets and she's dead scared of snakes >_O

I just basically told her that I was getting a lizard and she had no choice but to bear with it because I'm buying everything and i deserve it ^_^ (she still has no idea what it looks like) =P

PS. I've already named it Robbie Skinkers =D (Don't ask about the robbie part ^^; )

I bet you will come home one day and your mom will be holding Robbie! ;)

:ohyes:

I bet the excitement is killing you! I never had to wait for an animal to be delivered...can't say I know what it's like (yet)!

Glad you are doing all your research and making sure that Robbie will be nice and comfy! Good job!

Welcome to my life! Thankfully, my little brother (16) also has the passion for reptiles/animals like I do. So I have atleast someone to talk to about them.

They always mention how much money I "waste" on my animals. Good thing it isnt their money then, huh?

I haven't found anybody who likes reptiles yet ;_; They like the furry animals just fine and then we hit reptiles and they go away =P
I might have to PAY somebody to feed my poor skink if i go away for more than three days...@_@

My mom turned white when I told her my tank price...then she got angry when I told her the bowls and food cost....XD

She has the power to take my money away from me still so i better be careful~ <_< >_>

I personally like the flower pot saucers for a water dish as they are light weight and easy for the skink to get in and out of if they want. As for food bowls, I use either the small desert paper plates that I just throw away after each feeding or if I run out of those, I just take a normal size paper plate and cut it into quarters and use that.

I hate having to wash out the bowls after each feeding. I use disposable for my crested geckos as well.

As for food, it really isnt that expensive if your family likes fruits and veggies. Im not a big veggie fan, but LOVE fruits. This week I am snacking on Blackberries!

Yes, I have found that I am eating better now since my Blueys can (and do) eat the same things that I do...if I eat healthy! :)

(and yes, I've fed Maya the magical appearing snails before, the pet store in TN would give them to me for free.)

Your skinky will crunch them up like Cadbury eggs -- Maya gets so excited when he smells snails or slugs that he actually starts foaming at the mouth. He chews them up so quick he smears the slime all over this lips and then it begins to get his jaws all sticky, like a dog eating peanut butter!
