I dont' mean to harp on about the same thing - but the basking spot and the heat lamp don't seem to be set up right. Just my opinion, but I still say the water will get warm and the basking spot won't be much of a basking spot if you know what i mean.

In regards to the smoking light situation - I'd get it tested to be safe - you don't want your skink to get burnt alive and even more importantly - you don't wanna get caught in a house fire that could've been avoided with a simple test or replacement of the light.

I hope my thoughts are helping somewhat - if not - just tell me to shut up! :)

Hmm, the light is smoking, but there is no scent at all? Sure you're smellers are working? ;) That seems strange; how could there be no smell....

If you're seeing smoke, something is certainly off -- I'm not sure I would continue with it. Either replace or repair would be my advice....or perhaps call a local electrician and just describe?

You could of got something on the lamp or holder that is burning off, you know like a sticky finger print or a spider/fly or snot/boggy
MMMmmmmm... Something???????
