I'm so upset, my ornate bichir died today.

I did a water change last night and when I was done, the filter wouldn't prime right so i had to leave it til morning. There must have been an ammonia spike over night because I woke up this morning and he was dead.

Bastian was only 5 years old, I have never lost a fish this way, he should have had another 20-25 years with me.

I had gone to some festiv tree planting place, and they had little white tents with activities in it.
There was one tent with different reptiles that they showed us. :)

It was very cool.. heaps of people came.
Very multicultural, nice music and bands...
And they gave us free lunch!

Cheers for that Lisa, yesssss, those midges or nats{AKA}are a right pain in the proverbial,I thought the small furless ones were wasps haa haaa, do you get them? And hornets as well, we've had German wasps over here, they live underground, are a bit bigger, but the worst thing is they have five or six on gaurd, buzzing around the entrance,if anything gets within two or three metres of the entrance, they fly right at you giving it the biggen right in your face, until you vacate the area.[/quote]

Yep, get wasps too. I even have wasp nests in my house. I never see wasps in them, but you'll walk past a door or wall and think 'hey, that wasn't there yesterday'!
I'll have to take a pic of one of our bees to show you what I mean. The first time I went to the UK (89 Ashes series) I was so fascinated by the big furry bees that I took about 4 rolls of film just of them! And video too!
I was just a kid but

from msn.com
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Animal expert Jack Hanna and an 11-month-old flamingo became trapped while trying to squeeze through a security turnstile at an Ohio airport. It took firefighters to finally get the flamingo out.

Hanna, the director emeritus of the Columbus Zoo and a frequent guest on nationally televised talk shows, was returning from a zoo fundraiser with a mongoose, a small leopard and the flamingo. Three other people were with them.

The entourage arrived at the Ohio State University Airport just after midnight Sunday to find the terminal closed. The only way to leave the tarmac was through a 10-foot-tall metal turnstile with several horizontal bars — not the easiest exit to squeeze through when you are traveling with boxed-up animals, Hanna said.
"I never thought about the crate being square and the turnstile being round," he said.

Hanna, 60, pushed the flamingo's 2-foot-by-3-foot compartment into the turnstile, then continued pushing while straddling the crate.

"I was stuck like a worm. My eyes were as big as grapefruits," he said. "I can't describe the feeling in my stomach. I can't move up or down. The bars are on your face."

Hanna said he eventually squirmed free, leaving the flamingo still wedged inside and everyone else trapped on the tarmac. He then walked to a nearby fire station for help. It took three firefighters to hoist the flamingo's crate up and out of the turnstile, he said.

Columbus fire department logs show the firefighters arrived at the airport at 12:30 a.m. for a "flamingo rescue," spokeswoman Kelly McGuire said.

Hanna joked that the next time he flies through the airport, the biggest animal he will bring is a gerbil.

I like Jack Hanna, he tries very hard to get people to care plus he helped get a new feamle leopard cub for the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo (the little zoo that could on animal planet)

Snake Feeding Question:

I have had Cow, my California Kingsnake for 3/4 of a year now. When I first got her she was eating one hopper a week. She was soon moved up to 2 a week due to her constantly looking for more. Before summer she was being given 3, and was wolfing them down with a pro. About this time she was getting big enough that the hoppers would barely show a bulge, but I decided to change to adults after summer. During the summer while in my friends care, she started getting 4 hoppers each week after mistaking my friends brother for food, and she seemed very happy about it. Now she's gotten home, and is getting 2 adults each week. The adults are bigger and leave a bulge, yet she is definately still looking for more than just the 2.

All the caresheets I've found online say that a single mouse each week is fine, but I can't imagine her only having the one. I don't want her to be hungry, and so far the extra mice are going over very well, no sickness or anything. But I'm getting worried now that she's looking for more than 2. She's not wide enough for large/jumbo mice yet, so I may need to upgrade to 3 regular.

Am I doing something that could get Cow sick or injured, or do I just go with what she seems to want?? Does anyone else have a pig for a snake? I'm probably just a over-worried mom here, but any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Awwww, Cow is so pretty! (and I love the name Cow! :D )
What are her temps/set up like? I don't know much about snakes, other than when its warmer out, they're more active and hungry than when its cooler out. So maybe her hungriness is due to temps? Or she could just be a good eater! Lucky you! :banana2:

Lol. Actually, I got my temp gun, and Cow has low temps to what she should have. I'll be fixing this right away. She does go outside a lot with me, several times a week and for at least an hour at a time, and it has been warm, but otherwise she should technically not be eating much... What a pig.

In On-Topic News: I got my 2 tannies today!!! There will be pictures tomorrow.
