I thought for sure you'd make a new "what kind of skink" post with him and see what kind of names you'd get. :lol:

He may be weird but he's probably friendlier than my Freckles has been lately. I'm thinking of renaming him "Lil Devil" :twisted:

anyone here know anything about Fire Skinks? I was in Petco today and saw one, he didn't look to happy, infact I was afraid he was dead ( they said he was fine thank goodness) I heard that they are very hard to take care of (I googled them)and that they need high humidity, I just feel so sorry for him in that tank and it didn't look the least bit humid.

If he looks in bad shape, ask to speak to the petcare manager, and don't buy him. In fact, tell him that you won't shop there until their conditions are up to par.

Buying him only perpetuates the cycle.

Agreed. I've never been to a Petco that has the correct conditions. Most tanks don't even have heat lamps. Don't support it! When you buy it, they'll put another one in, and then if you live by your standards, you'd have to buy that one too!

I know how you feel! I've seen BTS that look in distress and it's not easy to just leave them. But it really is true that if you pay money for one, it's just keeping them in business...

I know that they are quick, aggressive, and love to web a lot!!! But IMO they are one of the "true classics" like G. rosea(rose hair), A. avics(pink toe), B. smithis(red knee), and H. lividiums(cobalt blue).
Oh and I plan to give her reign a challange.

Sorry it has taken nearly two pages before I got to this....

I actually don't have a GBB at this moment. Mine matured into a male and I sent him off to play with the ladies. He went up with one female locally and she is just about ready to drop a sac (of which I will get several of the babies :cloud9:

) and he is currently in New York City wooing 2 lovely females there.

GBB Ts are great. Their webs are amazing, their colors are phenomenal and they are pretty hardy as long as you don't get them too humid. They are quick to flick though...even as slings...so I wouldn't recommend handling much. They are definitely more of a display specimen.

I also have an Iridopelma sp. coming in the mail within the next week and I'm picking up a male versicolor to breed to my two females tonight or tomorrow. Oh...and did I mention that my black widow egg sac hatched? I now have about 75 of those little monsters and the female has since laid another sac! *whew*

Dragontears, you are crazy with all dem 'Piders! Hey, you live up here in Pacific NW-land, Tony and I live out in the woods, and we had what I swear had the leg-span of a good sized tarantula, but it had a smaller body & much thinner legs. I thought possibly a wolf spider? I was content to let her stay in the house as long as she stayed out of the bed. I don't even mind when they're in a corner, as long as they stay away from where we sleep. And what happened? the very next night, she had travelled all the way completely across the house and was literally hanging out on Tony's pillow! He didn't see her at first, and so he picked it up to fluff it before bed, and I saw it and I was all, "Put the Pillow down! Slowly now and nobody'll get hurt. . ."Tony was all confused, but he did, and I pointed to this Gargantuan spider. Sadly, we had to put her outside because she broke the Spider House Rule: Stay outta the bed!

She(and I'm guessing it was a she) was very leggy, but I'm not sure what she was! Definitely not a garden spider, maybe she was a wolf spider? The body looked a little smallish for that, and her legs were loooong! She was sort of dark grey/brown, and rather plain, Any ideas or suggestions on where I could look to see what she was?Should have gotten a pic, sorry! :shock:

Thanks DT, and everyone else too. I would love to have gotten the little guy, but the person I was to buy from got a much larger offer and took it. So still my only spider is Fang. However, tomorrow I'll be going around handing out resumes to pet stores I like, and if I see a nice spider I may have to bring it home. I really love the colorful ones, and agressiveness isn't a problem as I prefer having spiders to look at rather than play with. That's what the lizards and snakes are for. So I'll get back on here tomorrow if I get any spider and have questions. I'm hoping to find a colorful variety. A birdeating spider would also be very fun.

I had the option of buying a 2inch P. metallica at the show on Sunday. It was only $175 so I was really tempted. I ended up not bringing it home though. I WILL own one someday, but not yet. I'm going to breed my versicolor females and see if I can get some slings to trade up to something that I can trade for a P. metallica.

I'm also working on breeding my purpurea

The most common big spider around here is the Giant House Spider. Their bodies are small, but their legs are pretty long. I get requested to take them outside at work all the time since I pretty much have my entire work convinced that I'll kill them if they kill a spider. :lol:
