I think the forum just doesn't like me!!!!! I use to think the problem was my parents old computer because I never had a problem at school, but now it happens at the computer at my house too! :noknow:

Hey guys, I just found a little 3 inch wormlike snake in my bedroom. She's only the girth of a piece of spaghetti. I thought she was a worm at first but she moves just like a snake. When I caught her, if I watched really close I could see a tiny little tongue flicking in and out. Curious, I got online to try to figure it out and found that she is a Brahminy Blind Snake. Have you guys ever seen one? I read that they are originally from Asia but in recent years, due to the plant trade, they've spread all over the world in potted plants! It's the only snake found in Hawaii. They live under rotten wood and in moist soil. They eat ant and termite larvae and eggs. I'm guessing this one was driven indoors from all the rain here today. The coolest thing though is that they all are female and reproduce by themselves......they may lay eggs OR bear live young! How cool! Anyway, I don't know what I should do with her...It's still pouring down rain outside (I'm afraid she will drown) if I let her go in the house the cats will surely get her. So she's in a glass until I figure it out. I just thought it was a really cool find. I tried taking a picture with my camera, but couldn't get clear ones, but I found a pic of one on the web. Here it is!

The little snake is cool i am in tennessee and i never get to see the cool animals we got cows and chickens.

I bred one of my versicolor females on Thursday!!! They did so well! I hope I get little blue slings in a few months. :cloud9:

I'm going to try my younger female next and then put the boy back with Gem so I can up the chances of her getting gravid. Fingers crossed the boy doesn't become lunch! :pray:

The drumming (once the male realizes a female is around, he starts to drum his legs and pedipalps to entice her to come out and breed - and NOT to eat him):

Maneuvering into position:

Repositioning for the other palp:

Gently pushing the female back down so he can make his retreat (without getting munched):

The whole thing took less than 10 minutes. He got multiple insertions with both pedipalps and made his retreat intact. He's such a stud!

This was my first real breeding experience. I was so nervous...especially considering the male is on loan and I have to send him back! My female was so mellow though that the whole thing was really cool and a great experience. I just hope my younger female is as receptive!

I did put my rose hair with a male, but that was more to see behavior than anything. The male is over a year past his ultimate molt and has already fathered over 400 slings with my friend's female. My female rosea hasn't been eating and is in need of a molt. I figured the pairing of the two of them would either result in a breeding during which I could view behavior or a feeding which would help my female and prompt her to molt. Either way, I was ok with the outcome. End result: male bred her and dropped a leg when she attacked him. He's still alive.

They really are beautiful spiders...I am glad your males came out of it alive, I always see them on nature programs and usually the female eats the male. Gotta love it :shock:

plethodons are a variety of salamanders. When I did a collecting trip in NC we collected Desmognathus and Plethodons. That was a fantastic job!
