infrared light bulbs

for the tank im building (which i changed the demensions of before 4 feet 2 feet 1 feet, now 4 feet 2 feet 2 feet) i thought i'd get some new decor, new lights new EVERYTHING! so i was thinking of getting a infrared light, with a compact U.V.B bulb. But should i get the inrared light bulb with a thermostat? because i was told they go to extremely high degrees.also my dad had bought some cement mix a big hole the racoons dug up a couple of days ago so i was going to try and make a basking rock out of it, which is another factor whether or not to get the thermostat.

What does cement have to do with a thermostat? There is one reason for a thermostat, and that is to maintain proper temps in a reptile environment. You can't control temps without one. Read up on reptile temperature gradient control.

well uh the basking rocks temperature would grow, and it might grow too high if the lights heat isnt controle, im gonna check the caresheet to see if its got anything thanks for the comment

Is the infrared bulb for night time?

I'm not sure about cement for ornaments, would the lime burn him if it gets wet

Yeah, that's another thing Leigh, I forgot about what they call concrete poisoning that concrete workers get on their hands from the lime in the mix. It looks like the flesh is being eaten off their hands.

For fish tank use, many people will "cure" their cement ornaments/backgrounds by soaking them and doing water changes over a week or two.

If you are going to use a compact UVB make sure you check out this link before you choose. Some people have had serious problems with them.

All of that can be avoided by keeping the light a proper distance from the reptile, and giving it a break in period.
