BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

I have to find someone to come and turn Watson's light off while my boyfriend and I are out of town. We are leaving friday night to La Joya near San Diego and we are going to come back on Sunday around noon.

I don't really trust any of my neighbors.. they are really sweet, but I don't think they will remember to turn his light on or to feed him. I was going to feed him extra snails on Friday night so that he won't be hungry on Saturday. I will take his water bowl out so we have no accidents!

But my question is this?

I've already tried buying a timer... but I can't seem to find one anywhere!! (Well except out by the Valley like 1 hr away from my home) So... now I have no timer and I am freakin' out... about to cancel my trip if I can't find a solution. It was a last min trip. so I feel very unprepared.


Do you guys think that Watson will get sick, if I leave the lights on for 2 days straight???? The cool side of his enclosure is usally @ 70 degrees, so I was thinking if I put an extra dark box in there he can go there at night?? I can somehow... bounce the light and heat from one side of the enclosure... IDON'T KNOW!!!

I need some advise!

Um, all drug stores, grocery stores, home depots, harware stores, etc should have timers. Even Petsmart has them.


You could just leave the light off for two days, and not feed him a day or 2 before.

I went to a specialty reptile store earlier and the guy there was like... oh no.. you won't find anything like that anywhere around here!! I WAS LIKE really??

Now that I know he was wrong... I can' go out and find out around here... !!! THANKS FOR THE INFO NOMAD.. I'LL BE BACK!

I think he'd be fine over the weekend. As John said...timers are fairly easy to find. I got mine at Home Depot...it was cheap. He'll be fine not eating for 2 days.

If you can't get a timer, then what Nomad said. Don't feed him and leave his lights off for the weekend. I'd still leave a water bowl in, but.

He'll be fine!

I looked at timers at pet stores and they were so expensive. Then I realized I needed one badly and went out to buy one, however I made a stop at my local Zellers. Lo and Behold, a cheap, effective timer! I love it! I can plug in 4 timed items and 4 untimed ones. I now have 3 - one for Cow and 2 for my BTS. I love timers ^.^

What ever you do{lights on or off}, as long as he has some drinking water in case he's thirsty,he'll be fine.No need to worry about a day or two with no food, if anything you can see if he'll eat the things he's turned down before, as he might be hungry enough not to be so picky.

I see... so I should leave water in there...

I am only going to be gone for 2 nights.

I've been using the X10 Mini Timer plus the appliance modules and they've been working great. Inexpensive and you can easily setup multiple on/off times per module. My analog timers tended to drift and you couldn't be as specific on the times as the digital method. Plus I was already using X10 to turn off/on lights in the house automatically so it was an easy upgrade.

Yere i know how you feel we have people ask us for bobtails that need a good home , eg they might have no nostrils or no tails little deralict guys .We havent as yet given 1 away .The people want an easy ride to come out help for the day then take a special needs bobtail home no way josey !!!! . 3 months of volunteer work out getting hands on knowledge ....There needs are higher than a normal skink with no tails ,They can become very thin . Yes timers are the go if its cold ya want your lights on timers .

Christopher stays at school over the weekends anis fine. The big breaks he comes home but it became to much to bring him hom every weekend. He normally gets fed on a Tursday or Friday and then again on Monday. His lights are on a timer. He also gets a full water dish.

Mega, I have a small dish for drinking{leave in full} and a large dish for bathing{remove for safety} I know its monday and you've been and come back, this just explains what I meant earlier
