Do your blueys like turd treats?

Postby aggiegirl » Thu Oct 18, 2007 11:19 am

Charlotte, my baby bluey, is a wild child. I am constantly prying things out of her mouth. The grossest thing I seem to be prying out of her mouth is poop---dog, bird, cat, whatever! I thought this was just her but the other day my one year old bluey had a huge piece of dog poop hanging out either side of his mouth. I'm terrified that they will get endoparasites from this disgusting habit. Is this a common bluey thing or not? I know some other animals (millipedes, chuckwallas, etc.) actually do it to maintain healthy gut flora. I poopy scoop frequently but my blueys find what I miss. Anyone else had issues with this? How much should I worry about this?

well most animals (dogs/cats/birds) don't fully digest all of what they eat and when it passes through their system there are still alot of nutrients left in the poo and some animal can smell that or tell some how i guess and they eat it even though it's gross to us it's natural for them!
As to if he can get parasites i would think he can depending on the parasite but i'm not 100%positive!
i've had many differant herps and they've had a poo treat but i tried not to let them do it.

I don't have dogs or cats, but when I had Chuff in the lawn this weekend, I found a small stray-animal pile of doo. Thankfully, he ignored it, but I still steered him clear just in case. Eeeeeewww! Carnivore poop smells the worst. :hurl:

I've had dogs that love to raid the cat box for "tootsie roll" treats but as Tattoo is an only child I can not say about her poop eating habits. Thanks for the warning though. :hurl:

Haha.. Our dogs are also connoisseurs of Cat Cigars.. I had a Cuban Rock Iguana that went after his own feces one day while feeding. It was gross.

You are not alone -- I think there are a number of blueys, mine included, who just love free range "doggie chocolate"

Yes, mine do doo-doo.
Not disciminatory, either. Dogs, cats, possums, 'roo poo.
They usually get a good gulp down before I get to them, but mine get wormed once a year at the vets so I don't worry about it.

FYI, in the wild they'd eat it.

When we lived at my parent's house I had this problem because my sisters dog was always over. Our house is now a dog free zone and my guys hang out in the pit while outside so no more poop for them!
