Injured mouth

Postby Felmarg » Wed Oct 24, 2007 2:32 pm

My skink has two scales on the right side of the lower jaw that are kind of a caramel color right near the mouth. I looked up mouth rot, and I don't think that is it. He has had it for about 1 week and a half. It had gone away a bit, but it seems that it has gotten worse to what is discribed above. I am going to fully clean his tank just in case. Is it possible he bit something hard and broke the scales? Sometimes he bites the edge of his food dish a bit when he eats. :(

Sorry I can't get pics, but if anyone has any advise I would greatly appreciate it!

Oh, and I also went to Petco to get crickets (for my toad) and some Aspen, and found Spot's Stew on clearance for $2.40, but when the guy rang it up it said $.70, and I had a 10% off coupon. So I ran back and grabbed 12 cans of it. :ohyes:

Wow, wonder if that spot's stew sale is nation-wide?

It could be food drying on the sides of his mouth...can you put up a photo?

It is not dried food, I tried rubbing it with a damp towel. Sadly, I am unable to use a camera right now.
The Petco guy said that the store would probably no longer stock Spot's Stew so thats why I got so many. At $.63 a peice with my coupon it only cost me a little over $7.00 to get 12 cans. I hope that it is only that store so it can be purchased elsewhere.

If it doesnt look blatently like mouth rot and a shed is due , keep a close eye on it and see if the damage is rectified with that.

Thanks everyone! After looking more closely I think that they are damaged scales, and I think I found some scales on the snout that grew in a bit wrong, but I'm pretty sure it will grow out with the next shed. If it doesn't then I will worry about it more.
