I let them know i'm coming with words and patting the substrate, then dig em up and just pick em up. I hold the little ones behind the front legs. It scared me a bit at first, but I've gotten very used to just picking them up.Just try it a few times, you'll get the hang of it.

Ignore any huffs and puffs, they're designed to scare you!
Get a good hold behind the front legs, bring him straight out to where all his legs are supported, like you palm or your chest or your lap, don't make sudden or jerky movements around him. You can then stroke or pet him on his head or back, but avoid the tail as it's their vulnerable spot and they will drop it if they feel threatened (but you really have to threaten them bad for that to happen)
Yes, bluetongues burrow and sleep alot, but if you want to bring him out, then like Fatal said, approach slowly, speak to him, gently remove the substrate and go for it!

mine will jump and lunge at me when i try to pick him up. i rub him with a pencil (eraser side) for a while untill he stops, then i pick him up and support him with my whole arm. i hold him out over his tank, because he still pees when i hold him and my mom would have a fit if she found out the lizard peed on the floor.

I'm sure there's a section on handling in the caresheet here on this site, have you read it at all?you should ,as its brilliant for all things Bluey.Try to approach the fella slowly with your hand at the same level and try not to grab from above(like a birds claws)also offering a bit of chicken or a favourite food will encourage him to see you as a friend not a threat. Good luck and post pictures when you get the hang of it MMMmmmmm... Something???????

When I first got Booger he was really flighty and fiesty, so I would put a paper towel over him and then pick him up. Usually once they are out they calm down as long as they feel safe

just be slow and gentle. when i handle my bts hank I always gently dig him out don't disturb his substare to much one you find yous pick him up by his stomach. just gently lift him out, never grasp your or he will think he's under attack! just be gentle and a good time to play with him is before you feed him this way he will associate yopu with food.
best of luck
