BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

i have given up on trying to get that skink of mine to eat good stuff. after a lot of coaxing i got him to eat some roast chicken. got to be healthier than raw liver. after a few pieces i gave up and green poo was the result.

liver and banana seem to be the main staple, a little egg, ocasional strawberry and tomato and sometimes green beans covered in apple sauce or cranberry sauce, maybe some brocoli whized up with banana. everything else is ignored or most often spat out. sometimes after 10 mins of feeding all i get is half a dozen peices of spat out food.

next is to teach him to eat off a plate.

don't feed him broccoli it contains goitrogens which messes with thyroide hormones and this can be lethal. Have you tried rasberries? or collard greens? broccoli is dangerous just a heads up. also what are you feeding for live food sometimes green poo can mean a liver infection. in which case your bts will need to see a vet. gl

try putting all the veggies into a food processor, it makes them small, like pin head size (it would even liquefy it if you wanted) and then mixing it with canned cat food.

Dont feed him for at least a week, or as long as it takes to make him PROPER hungry, they are not picky when PROPER HUNGRY.

i havent given him brocoli for months since i found out about the danger.

i have blended and liquidised and gone a week between feedings, it all gets refused except liver and banana. tried rasberrys, he didnt like them. i fed him last night, he shed earlier so was hungry and he wolfed down the liver, if i offer cat or dog food its ignored completely, first day i had him i he ate dog food but after that he stoped. its not like he is being picky, its more like he doesnt asociate veg with food. will try to whiz up some greens with banana for his next feed. and then try extending the time between feedings and getting him out a lot so he burns energy and gets really hungry.

oh he doesnt eat live food, i havent tried a snail yet because i live in a flat and im worried the council treats the plants with stuff that would make the snail unsafe. but he has been offered worms and wax worms

Stop offering him the liver portion or just rub the scent onto different greens,it sounds like its caused a REAL problem. You've made a rod for your own back letting him get his own way for tooooooooooooo long.

Find some snails, it aint hard over here, leave them in a covered bucket/tub,with a little water and a cabbage leaf or some greens, and let them eat and clean themselves through. If in 3 to 5 days they're still alive they should be good to feed.

Gloom ... the first time I gave Tattoo collard greens without cat food he looked at me like I was high or something. I have found if I take a small piece of mango, smash it up and mix it with the collard greens he eats it! Even stranger he ignored a SNAIL one night to eat his greens first. I still haven't gotten over that one.

have you tried crickets? my guy also go's absolutely nuts for pinky ,mice he actually jumped about 8 inches in the air when i was putting one in his cage, it scared the crap outa me lol! just keep trying and check this sites care sheet on skink foods it has excellent information that may help you.
