Contest theme for November 2007: A hot new herping magazine featuring “all Blue Tongues all the time” is looking for some good advertisements to fill it’s pages. Your assignment (should you choose to accept it) is to submit a photo that you would like considered for publication in this new magazine. With your photo you can include a title or slogan as part of your submission. This could be your blueys chance to make it big! So stage moms/dads get to work! :star:

Disclaimer: No animals (especially blueys) should be harmed in the making of any ads.

Deadline to submit pictures: by Sunday morning, November 25th

Submission info
1. Email only (do not post or pm your entry) to Kelly at: kellyann72@comcast.net You will receive a confirmation email once your entry is received
2. Please resize your pictures to no larger than 640x480 before submitting to me. It is still best to take your picture at the largest size you can – if your picture wins we will need the larger size to put in the calendar.
3. Include in the email your forum name, bluey name and a short title (title optional)

Rules
· Contest is open to all members of the forum.
· The member submitting the picture must own the bluey pictured.
· Only 1 entry per member each month. One entry per bluey each month
· For members that own 3 or more blueys, each bluey is only allowed to win 1 time a year. For members that own only 1 or 2 blueys, each bluey may each win no more than 2 times a year (different picture). After that they may no longer enter until the New Year begins. They may still participate by posting pics fitting the theme in the contest announcement thread, but their picture(s) will not be included in the contest voting.
· No commentary or photo editing (unless the particular contest theme allows for it in the rules) such as adding images/wording, altering colors, etc.

Prize
The winning entry will entitle the winner to receive their picture on a magnet (courtesy of Zach. The winning picture will also be shown on the main page of this website and featured in the 2008 BTS.net calendar (1st place pic will be the large/main picture with 2nd & 3rd place winners will appear as smaller inset pictures).

Post any questions/comments about the theme in this thread, but do not post your entry. All eligible submissions will be posted with a voting poll (yes, you can vote for yourself) within a day or two of the submission deadline.

* Also feel free to email any contest theme ideas you may have – no matter how crazy!

just to clarify - you are basically submitting an advertisement/commercial using your bluey. Your picture may be self explanatory and not need a slogan attached, but if it's not you should include a slogan that helps explain your 'advertisement'. This is not exactly like the other contests in which you submit a picture of your bluey with a title. The advertisement does not necessarily have to be bluey/reptile related.

Can we add the slogan directly to the picture or is the slogan to remain separate?

I personally say it should be separate since with some fancy computer work a person can really enhance their picture and get a leg up on the competition - that's one of the reasons that we decided the rules would include that you could not do any altering to the picture, etc.

Zach?

Ads need ad copy! Without the context given by the copy, how will anyone know what it is supposed to be when it's in the calendar?

You can submit a title/slogan, etc with the picture just as always - but the question is about putting it in the actual picture. Not everyone has the ability to do this. For those that can there is the potential that the added element to the picture could give them an edge-at least that was our original thinking.

Zach - what's the final word?

Oh, I didn't know the text captions also would make it into the calendar. Everyone does have the ability to add their own captions though, with some caveats --

http://www.gimp.org/ (not user-friendly, but adding text is pretty easy)
http://www.getpaint.net/ (requires downloading the .NET framework :hurl:)

Sorry about the late reply -- I agree with Kelly. Old fashioned it is!

We should have some "computer allowed" month sometime though....

Agreed...it's on the list, but I haven't quite figured out how to arrange it yet.

I just changed the deadline to Sunday morning. I don't know what I was thinking making the deadline Thanksgiving day morning. This way hopefully more will enter with the extra time over the busy holiday.
