Silk Worms

I was just wondering if feeding silk worms exclusivly as the meat portion of a BTS diet is acceptable or should I try and get other meat products into the rotation as well? I just find that when I feed my BTS crickets and occasionally a couple of silk worms she looks a little on the skinny side yet if I feed her only silk worms she looks nice and plump.

Crickets are not a great source of food, look at the charts on the caresheet for good sources of meat. Silkworms are good, but variety is a very good thing.

What veggies and greens are you offering? If you like live food and you are lucky enough to have a skink that will eat the veggies/greens with out a little incentive, there are other good worms out there.

Agreed. I think crickets are great for enrichment, but there are so many better alternatives - silkworms being one of them. However, you should not limit to just 1 or 2 protein sources. You need a variety of each of greens, veggies, fruits and protein. Do not just stick with a couple of anything.

I normally feed her Bokchoy or Collard Greens. She doesn't seem to be a big fan though. On occasion I'll feed her banana and she freaks out for it but I know not to feed it to her often as the potasium causes issues with calcium absorption. I was feeding her gut loaded/dusted crickets as the meat portion of her diet with the occassional silk, but I find doing only silks is easiest. Also, she's about a year old. So any suggestions as to what I should change.

definitely more variety. I rotate between 5 greens, over a dozen veggies, at least half a dozen fruits and half a dozen meats. Again, you want more than 2 greens, 1 fruit and 1-2 meats. Also, you didn't mention any veggies. Be sure to check out the food chart if you haven't already.

I'd ditch the crickets altogether, nasty dirty smelly things! I even find cockroaches to be cleaner. Weird, huh? You are very lucky that your skinker likes silkworms, mine won't touch them! I may try the green hornworms in the springtime when he gets active again.
I know that squash of pretty much any kind is good for skinks, and mine absolutely LOVES the yellow cherries when they're in season. (expensive, but I like sharing with him. )
Variety is the key, definitly check the caresheet for both good foods, and what to avoid. Good luck!
