We now own Peyton (aka Pixie) and have had her since Friday and we have all fallen in love ! She is actually for my son Luke, but we are all enjoying her! I hope she is ok - she has not eaten a lot but has eaten ! She seems to have adjusted very well, she is so funny ! Hope you don't mind lots of questions !!!

a question

Postby yankeefan » Tue Nov 06, 2007 6:49 pm

OK, it seems Peyton burrows a lot - she is under the substrate often. Does she need to be out and under the light constantly? She loves her hide too - sometimes she seems so cold, we keep diggin her out and putting her under the light. We have to trim her nails soon (they are sharp), that is scary !

Its normal for them this time of year to burrow and hide a lot. Keep offering a light/basking spot, and reduce food intake :)

All skink burrow for most of the day, it's just how they're wired. If your tempuratures are correct, she'll regulate her own heat perfectly. Constanly removing her from her hide and putting her in the open may just scare her, and she'll hide more. Also, as Nomad said, she may burrow and hide more during the winter, but so long as the temps are alright, she'll be fine. If you want her to sleep through the winter, you can stop feeding her and let her tank cool down, but otherwise just keep going like normal.

As for nails, you can trim them, or let her wander on a rough surface, such as a cement tile outside if it's warm enough. Having a rough basking rock also helps. There's several threads from the past on trimming nails along with the caresheet, so look those up if you need tips!

I am married to a HUGE Mets fan, we had an hour long debate last night on why A-rod should not go to the Mets and why they should have hired Torre instead

Once again, welcome to the boards :D :D

I call him Zatchie because of something he said a while back when I used to frequent the site.

We were having a conversation about how everyone pronounces their names and whatnot, so Zach chimed in and said that he pronounces his name Zatch. Ever since, I've called him Zatchie.
thanks!
